What animals/wildlife have you seen today?

Coyote in the back yard. The neighbor's cat wisely made a runner for the house. I ran interference until she was safely inside.

i see coyotes from time to time, they're very abundant where i live (somewhat 'in the country'). i suppose you also hear them howling in large packs pretty frequently? they sound (fucking insane) a lot scarier than they look, just like hideous little wolves, although i'd certainly not like to run into a pack of them in the middle of the night. which i believe has come pretty close to happening a time or two, about a decade ago when i didn't have a vehicle for (roughly a year i think?), and would walk the backroads while tweaking. i wasn't the brightest.

apart from that i've mostly just seen snakes - and deer, ofc - but i've seen some pretty massive rattlesnakes out here before. they can be pretty horrifying.

I've never seen a seal that I can remember. I've always wanted to see one in the Thames. Maybe I'll have to make it a mission some time.

I saw a grey seal in the Lea I think it was last year, it would have come in via the Thames ofc - but certainly an interesting thing to see near my home in East London :D
The gulls were not happy about it being there, presumably competition for their fish, and they divebombed it repeatedly with a lot of screeching until it swam back out towards the Thames!
Quite astonishing to see.
Not a regular thing though, not sure where to suggest you might be able to head to in order to have a better chance of seeing one, at least not in London - I mean they do show up, but I can't think of anywhere here you're more likely to see one than not, if that makes sense.

A buzzard did that great thing where they fly along in front of you as you're driving. Followed him down Tregonning Hill for a few seconds before he veered off into the woods. I was doing about 35 mph and he could've happily outrun me.
Never had that, but I remember once a Mallard Duck flew along in front of my dad's car for a bit, it kept looking round at us and to say it had a slightly alarmed expression on its face was an understatement.
(My dad slowed down of course to give it time to change its flight plan)

I've sat upstairs in the Captain Kidd in Wapping and seen a seal a couple of times. There are seals living further up the river from there. It's old info though - but sitting in a riverside pub looking for seals is a great way to spend a sunny afternoon.

When you say further up, do you mean upstream?

I would probably be inclined to go for the Mayflower as it's on my side...

Further towards the sea, I guess that's downstream not upstream is it  Although seals have been spotted far further up the river too. I think there's a seal colony further downstream..
