We saw what looked like the rear end of a grey squirrel in the trees this morning.
Annoying, will need to get the local reds group to put out their trap if it comes back.
{I live in the debatable lands between reds and greys, and I would rather have the native species rather than the invasive foreign one, especially as the latter carries a nasty virus}

Those have the body of a mosquito. They basically look like mosquitoes if you were to magnify them. Do these 'crane flies' bite?

Small, very quick rodent in the back courtyard. I think it was a mouse rather than a baby rat because the rats positively saunter about daring you to look at them.

No, they are no danger at all. And they lack the proboscis that mosquitos use to bite as well as the funny body angle of mosquitoes. But yes, they look like big mosquitos.

We didn't lure him in with food btw, he came in for a look around a while ago when we were sitting at the kitchen table with the back door open and perched on top of the recycling bin looking expectant.

Not seen but heard. The tawny owl that lives at the back of ours has an owlet.
Baby owls don't sound anything like adults - I heard this squeaky little bird and it reminded me of one I'd heard on Dartmoor once before. I aimed the Merlin app at it and it's a baby Tawny.I've heard the owls here loads of times but only ever seen them in the woods, usually when they're hunting at dusk.
