Was Leftfield Leftism the best album ever?

ah, nothing that specific, they were just really tight, really money driven, unpleasant to work for. And just the worst kind of trancey twaddle ever :D

It was m.o.r. crap for beered up twats to shout lager lager lager to.

totally agree. It was the 'Altamont' of the 'rave generation'.

do fuck off with yer "it'd be great if only the plebs didn't like it so" bollocks.
Ta :p

and Leftism? - No. but it was good at the time
has no-one mentioned yet how the last track is almost the aural equivalent of that Prodigy inner sleeve? - awful toss.

'With the picture The Prodigy are taking a stance in the conflict of ravers versus the police in those days. At the same time this statement is used to market a rebellious attitude. The picture is part of the artwork of a record - which is of course a commodity. The teenage (and male) consumer ought to identify himself with the presented rebellion. With the help of the artwork a certain image of The Prodigy is established: They should be seen as anti-stars, who define themselves through refusal and opposition(...)'

Leftism and Leftfield were way over-rated, same as Orbital, they just worked hard and did what they had to do. Musically they were pretty empty, but they did hundreds and hundreds of gigs, so fair play to them.

Best album ever?

"My Life In The Bush of Ghosts" by David Byrne and Brian Eno.

Probably.

Good piece I thought - I was at the event he gave the talk at - he was contrasting the prodigy artwork with some kid606 artwork which takes the piss out of it.

I thought it was babbage myself.

Talk about over-intellectualising a simple album cover!

certainly leftism is not the best album ever made, tho i do think it marked a point in time very very well. It was almost the soundtrack to the next year or two. Every festival i went to after its release you would hear "release the pressure" or "space shanty" booming out of the PA. walking through the glastonbury market place at the time was just like a whole load of leftfield tunes from one stall to the next.

they marked a point in time, very very well.
best album.. ??? its no were near london calling :D

No, I think it's a bit boring to be honest. Even when I bought it the first time I was rather "meh".
sorry it was seminal at a time when music was into it's guitar based grunge...

1995 is when leftism came out...

and yes it wasn't as adventurious as maybe some msuic which has come after it but at the time it was seminal...

hmmm, challenging...no, actually i was coming at it more from kind of "it was a fucking shit song that sounded like a trance remix of a U2 song" type angle :)

dear oh dear.

that's just plain mistaken.

still. at least you don't like it - you know what I mean about people who's main objection is just that it's popular. that pisses me off.

Just bought this again for my ipod, and it hasn't aged at all. Preferring Last Resort tbh but still, you can't argue with Storm 3000 ;)

Oh god, that has actually got me laughing out loud seeing it again. It's worse than I remember it to be :D :D :D

It really is terrible isn't it? My copy was on a tape someone made for me so I never got to see it until many years later. i laughed then and I'm laughing now!

yup, agreed. i'd certainly say Last Resort's "Skinhead Anthems" is an infinitely better album, both in terms of its musical envelope pushing and its zeitgeist-capturing weltanschaalung, than any of that tosh Leftfield came out with.

That was when I bought it and I remember thinking it was okay but overrated and there was much better stuff about.

I suppose it might be argued that it was "seminal", most people who were around at the time will remember it, but that doesn't mean it was good.
