US House passes Obama's key healthcare reform

The interstate highway system was built by the fed. Rural electrification was federal. Going to the moon was federal.

Oh so you think I'm against anything federal?

Going to the moon was Alice. And I'm going to be Ralph.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

You've said in the past that you believe in privatizing most things. (You see, I actually read other peoples posts.) I gave you three examples of things that wouldn't have happened at all without a federal government. There are some things that work better private, and some that work better as a society-wide effort.

Would you prefer a UK-style free at the point of access, paid for out of general taxation system? If so, I agree, it is hugely preferable to the scheme Obama's introducing.

If not, what would you propose, and how would you pay for it?

You speak of everything so idealy. I bet it's awesome.

I guess the UK system runs like a Swiss watch? Anyway the UK isn't in charge of the US. We're stuck with congressmen that don't even read bills they vote on. Makes you feel safe doesn't it?

No, we arn't. We have these things called "elections."

Now, I admit that it's gotten difficult to get an incumbent out of office, but that's largely because corporate contributions are allowed to buy elections.

Didn't you just spend a large amount of time on another thread defending a corporation's "right" to do just that?

What good were they? Interstates just let non-North Carolinians come here more easily and stay. Electricity just makes people dependent and enslaved to a monopoly. And going to the moon only matters to people that believe it was a hoax.

 Oh I forgot. You're the believer.

Sure thing, lets just send Mr Smith to Washington. We'll all send our Mr Smiths to Washington. :D

LOL, I'm gonna stop debating with you now. :D

So you're arguing against the liberty of non-Carolinians do come and go freely. You're against the electrical power you're using to post here and you don't think we ever went to the moon?

Dude, seriously! It's just too funny. :D

Sure. They went to war when Colin Powell showed them satellite photos of semitrailers hauling Weapons of Mass Destruction.

Of course the UK system isn't ideal, but life expectancy in the UK is higher than the US and the UK's health budget is about half the US's in terms of percentage of GDP. Oh, and every single person is fully covered.

Something's going badly wrong with the US system, yet you cannot propose any alternative, which is rather ridiculous, don't you think. I'm sure the UK system would never be accepted in the US, but a system like the French one – universal health insurance underwritten by the state – easily could.

Your lack of ambition or imagination is slightly sad. :(

And as far as taxes go, if you add up the average taxes paid in the UK (including health care) and the average taxes paid in the US plus the cost of health insurance--the UK comes out lower.

I didn't say any of that. You said that's what I think.
