Uruguay vs England (Group D) Thursday 19th June 2014

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if Suarez had surgery on his knee, and he hasn't played any matches since this surgery, surely he's not match fit.

But if the above is true, how much of a super-human is he? Is he capable of his Liverpool form regardless?

And Uruguay have been refused their "Dulce de leche" by the Brazilian authorities, which I am sure will tip the balance in England's favour.

Just means Coates might play, anyone who's seen him play for Liverpool will know he's not the most mobile of defender.

christ did anyone just see the team glen hoddle would pick?

hart
johnson cahill jagielka baines
gerrard
rooney lallana
wellbeck sterling
sturridge

anyway england are definitely going to win this one

Rumours sneaking out that Suarez is not starting :hmm: there are always rumours before important games. Maybe mind games? Dunno?

wouldn't surprise me. No way can he be fully fit. If he was close to full fitness they would have thrown him on against costa rica.

If Suarez plays, England are out. He's better than any English player by a country mile. Surprised the sun hasn't printed a massive front page of the guys knee.

Indeed - one world class player makes the whole team. Just look at the record of george best with northern ireland.

He isn't fully fit. England's attacking players maybe aren't at the same level as a fully fit Suarez - but they are very good. Uruguay were toilet against costa rica - Englands pace should be too much for them.

So what are the footballing gods going to throw at England this evening. A red card is probably high on the list. Closely followed by an unjust penalty and Raheem Sterling being struck by lightning. Triumph or complete disaster lie ahead. Once more unto the breach dear friends, once more.

Oxlade-Chamberlain ruled out of tonight's game :(
I heard some chat on the radio this morning - essentially it's better to give him four-five extra days, rather than risk something now. Seems sensible to me, and it's not like we're left empty and toothless without him.

Hopefully Uruguay will take a similar approach with their injured players, whoever they might happen to be.

No, Uruguay would probably win without him. They'll definitely win with him. I don't think you can compare NI and Uruguay ffs.

Did you watch their match against costa rica? Uruguay were terrible.

And yes england have lots of pace in attack - stirling, sturridge, wellbeck - plus oxlade chamberlin and ross barkley. All quick and skillfull. Uruguay - other than Saurez - are lacking both.

Do you actually follow football? or have you just wandered onto this thread to parade your ignorance?

I think he's on the wind up.
It's Suarez, so you can expect practically anything, but it's very rare for players to go from a serious operation to straight up to speed in their first match back

"Knee knee, de na na!!"

They're bullshitting us into believing that Suarez will be fit. Just like we're bullshitting them that Rooney will be played in the middle. It's just media mind games.

However, if Suarez does score significant goals and England are knocked out of the competition, then that will be the most incredible event of this World Cup. The odds are against them; a poorly knee is one thing, but having their dulce de leche pudding intercepted may prove to be too much for the squad.

I think England will win. :D

I wouldn't be especially incredible if Uruguay sort themselves out and England play badly - they might have looked like mugs against Costa Rica, but they beat Colombia, Argentina and Chile in qualifying and they have other players. It would be pretty shocking if Suarez came flying out of the traps and won the game single handedly.
