Uruguay v Ghana

Can't imagine many players in the same position who wouldn't have instinctively reacted in the same way, can you?
I'm pretty sure I remember a feature on Football Focus or the like years back where that basic scenario was put to a number of professionals and they all said they'd stop the goal, with hands if necessary.

Paul Scholes definitely did it once and was very up front about it, started walking before the card was shown.

Let's not forget the penalty that was never given to Uruguay earlier in the match, but it seems people have forgotten it already

You're pumped up with adrenaline, you want to stop the goal by any means necessary, it's an instinct.

hard to say really although it's still massively harsh for team that unfairly suffers because of it.
It wasn't unfair - he knew he'd be sent off and miss the next game. It was literally do or die, and he gave Ghana the chance to win it fairly in normal time. They didn't. You can't blame Suarez for that.

He'll be a hero in Uruguay for doing it though! :D (and let's face it, he would be in any country)

suarez gave ghana the chance to win it by unfairly preventing them from scoring a definite goal?

interesting logic!

It was never a free kick to set the situation up either. Plenty of rolling about by the Ghana players during the game too. Can't fault Suarez for what he did, and he was justly punished according to the Laws of the Game.

That's an over-reaction. You see plenty of deliberate handballs in English domestic football. Who was it that palmed the ball over the bar for Arsenal in the FA Cup final? Uruguay are no more cheaty than Ghana.

I'm not excusing the England team or domestic football... my point is, why bother to watch if it becomes so pervasive? The correct decision there would have been a penalty goal - why did Ghana have to take penalty kick at all when the deliberate actions of Suarez denied them a legit goal?
