A Winged Victory For The Sullen - A Winged Victory For The Sullen

a_winged_victory_for_the_sullen.jpg.scaled1000_1.jpg

More voters put this at Number 1 than any other album, but not many other mentions means it doesn’t even make number 5. Classical, ambient, post-rock, formed in memory of Sparklehorse, who they sound bugger all alike.

5

James Blake - James Blake

James-Blake-Album.jpg

James Blake is an American professional tennis player, known for his speed and powerful, flat forehand. Well, that or a posh electro ‘post-dubstep’ recording artiste

4

Peaking Lights - 936

PEAKING-LIGHTS-936.jpg

Apparently this is the second album by some trendy yankee husband and wife duo, showing off a myriad of influences around it's psychedelic heart

3

Mogwai - Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will

Mogwai-Hardcore-Will-Never-Die-But-You-Will-2011_musicasocial.jpg

Have they still got anything left in them? By George (Square, Thatcher Death Party), yes they have.

2

PJ Harvey - Let England Shake

pj-harvey-let-england-shake.jpg

The early favourite, and a work of sublime genius. It is the best album of the year, it just didn’t win.

1

Radiohead - King of Limbs

the-king-of-limbs.jpg

Apparently, it’s A Radiohead album. No voter made it their Album of the Year, but by sheer ubiquitousness, it is Urban’s undisputed Album of the Year. That’s what’s wrong with STV...

spotify playlist - UAotY2011

Number 1 albums that didn't make the list:

Atomic Suplex – Bathroom Party (no, this wasn't AS's vote...)
British Sea Power – Valhalla Dancehall
Chase & Status – No More Idols
Civil Wars – Barton Hallow
Colin Stetson – New History Warfare vol 2 – Judges
David Lynch – Crazy Clown Time
Gruff Rhy – Hotel Shampoo
Mekons – Ancient & Modern 1911-2011
Nicolas Jaar –Space Is Only Noise

Thanks belboid, a good job.

King of the Limbs would've been my album of the year if I'd voted, but then I don't know any of the others apart from PJ Harvey and Tom Waits.

Thanks belboid , I always go back to this thread through the year for top ups , lots there to investigate , usually only have 3 or 4 from the thread and end up with several more .
