bluestreak - would it be possible to get some info with each album. There's a few so far I hadnt heard of. But if its just Baltic Jazz Folk then I'll know not to bother to go look for it........ :)

well, i'll do me best for the later ones, it was just that i couldn't be arsed to write mini-reviews for these as it was late, and there were some that i didn't know myself!

don't kill yourself over it bluestreak - just stick up the positions and the covers. i'm sure everyone else can pitch in with explanations if they're needed.

The Magic Numbers?

The Eels?

*shakes head at Urban*

All I'm saying is that One Time For All Time had better be way up the fucking top.

Its a grower - definitely album of the year thou. :)

But your taste is 'unique' (see I can be polite)

predictions anyone?

Arcade Fire for Number 1 spot - unless it's unfairly banned that is.

almost certainly yes. i'd like to see sigur ros and sleater-kinney in the top twenty.
I think my hopes for a Julian Cope appearance have been dashed already :(

If Rossz Csillah Allatt Szutett isn't in the top 10 then I will be very upset. But Im sure it will be. :)

well as a first stop you can always try looking for them on Amazon - that will ofetn provide a review or two and some stuff to listen to, even for some of the more obscure ones.

Good place for album covers too bluestreak ;)

The Fall - Fall Heads Roll

B000A39FL2.02.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

Mark E Smith returns with an almost stable line-up and more of the same. Expect growling, lyrics that don't mean anything for months and then mean EVERYTHING, and free jazzcore rolls. Or whatever it's called these days. Either way, there are two types of people - people who get The Fall and people who don't understand music.

Sufjan Stevens - Come On Feel The Illinoise!

B0009MWAPW.02.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

The folk american tornado contines, and Christian oddball Sufjan Stevens intends to write an album about every state of the USA. Stand out track: The Black Hawk War, or, How To Demolish An Entire Civilization and Still Feel Good About Yourself in the Morning, or, We Apologize for the Inconvenience But You're Going To Have To Leave Now, or, "I have fought the Big Knives and will continue to fight them till they are off our lands!" You know it makes sense.

Pendulum - Hold Your Colour

B0009Y33BK.02.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

Some call it pop DnB, some claim it's where DnB meets metal, either way it's been Pendulum's year. This album features two singles of the year, in Freestylerz collaboration Fasten Your Seatbelts and its rolling clownstep, and Slam's awesome gurn'n'bass rinseout. You need this album.

...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead - Worlds Apart

B00078EPNI.02.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

Possibly my album of the year. The Trailies somehow maintain their noisy edge whilst maintaining their melodic edge. Lyrically they're better than ever, and lose nothing by increasing their production values. Seriously good, and moving further away from the "junior sonic youth" accusations with every record.

you can't just throw random albums in, no matter how good they are, this is democracy at work sunshine!

Sage Francis - A Healthy Distrust

B0006OS64W.02.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

Sage's first album for punk label Epitaph doesn't see him taking a new edge, it's still the same backpack intellectual hiphop with beats minimal enough for the mainstream, smart enough for the chin-strokers. Railing against war, major labels, commercialism, sexism and everything you expect from your favourite angry non-prophet.

The White Stripes - Get Behind Me Satan

B0009EK69W.02.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

Despite dividing audiences with the Glastonbury headlining slot this album saw the mariarchi blues tip kicking off big time. Without any of the major crowd-pleasers that Elephant gave the world, instead it was an almost experimental voyage through Jack and Meg's musical world, taking in barking and timpani on the way. Not the album of their career, but an interesting and entertaining record. Haters check out the High Contrast mix of Black Orchid for a true crossover anthem.

Devendra Banhart - Cripple Crow

B000A78Z82.02.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

The album cover alludes to both Sergeant Pepper and perhaps more importantly, to The Incredible String Band's The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter. Folky oddness to rival Nino Rojo. Finally getting a bit of recognition, catch him at ATP soon kids!

Sigur Ros - Takk

B000AANVZ6.02.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

A band who just go "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" or post-rock's icelandic superstars? You tell me, cos I couldn't bring myself to listen to it.
