Ukraine and the Russian invasion, 2022-25

So why exactly are WL and SWP at variance on this issue?
I won't try screen grabs etc - but seems clear from the SWP website they are pretty pro-Putin - maybe STW are largely SWP?
According to Wikipedia the SWP consider themselves to be Trotskyite. Not enough perhaps?
There isn’t one Trotskyist position on the war , there are many ranging from support NATO to don’t support any imperialist states/ alliances to support Putin .They’ll probably all argue that their line is the most Trotskyist position , it’s what Titskyist groups do .
I’m not sure what your evidence is for the SWP being in the pro Putin camp ?

From their website, I thought this seemed rather sympathetic to Putin and Russia.
Maybe it was more cynical and aloof? West's last push in Ukraine before Trump's return

In what way does it seem rather sympathetic? It condemns the invasion and it's overall summary of where the war is at this moment, although brief and lacking in a more deeper analysis, is hardly controversial.

Report on the forced conscription drives inside Russia, including those with medical and essential work exemptions. It's grim reading, and must be scary living in fear like this.

With reportage on this for both sides, talk of broken old men being forced to the front, surely it’s time to let go of stupid ambitions to contain and defang Russia and negotiate an end to the war?

The electronic summons registry mentioned above isn't going to be a a silver bullet judging on the Ukrainian system which has been running for just over a year .

"In 2024, more than 6,000,000 citizens liable for military service did not update their personal data. This is subject to... a fine of between UAH 17,000 and UAH 25,500."

"More than half a million men have been wanted since the full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022. This was reported on KyivFM by Natalia Kindrativ, an officer of the Communications Department of the Land Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

"If we operate with some numbers, data, we have a number - the number of people who were put on the wanted list," the official said.

When asked how many people were wanted, Nataliya Kindrativ noted that "over 500 thousand people were wanted by the National Police during the full-scale invasion."

Apparently they are nationalists rather than Waffen SS idolising fascist scum.

Here is a bit more from the article I posted above.

Azov, a volunteer brigade whose decade-old nationalist origins have made it a target of Russian propaganda, plans to form an international battalion to boost its numbers as Ukraine heads into a fourth year of full-scale war.

The Guardians revisionism is astonishing to me. They know this is bullshit.
Here is a bit more from the article above.

“The brigade began life as a volunteer militia fighting Russian-backed separatists in 2014, and some of its leaders held ultra-nationalistic and far right views. Russia designated it a terror group in 2022, and for several years the US refused to supply it arms directly.

However, Azov has changed over a continuous decade of fighting. In the summer, a US review led to the end of the weapons ban, concluding the unit had not committed any human rights violations. At the time, Russia accused Washington of being willing to “flirt with neo-Nazis”, comments Azov members dismiss as propaganda.”

Given your cheering of the armed Palestinian struggle are you then joining Hamas or PIJ?
Have you ever known me to make supportive comments towards Hamas or indeed PIJ (whoever the latter are)?

Lots on here are Azov fans though. Others happily turn a blind eye to their politics.

Plenty here that support a broader Ukrainian fight against occupation rather than Azov specifically that you regularly snipe should go and join up, the same way you support a broader Palestinian struggle even if not Hamas or PIJ specifically, so feels kinda similar me.

Unless the whole, "You're so brave you go and fight" thing is more playground style taunting than anything meaningful...?

This recruiting advert for Azov, unfortunately, mirrors that section of liberals who just turn a blind eye to rightwing elements if their aims match their own. Surely it's possible to be against the Russian invasion and also against Azov's ideology?
I think nuanced positions such as yours are getting pushed out of the way.

Not to mention that you only have to follow a few vloggers to learn that the last thing Ukraine needs is a bunch of enthusiastic amateurs and armchair heroes barrelling out there and having a panic attack the first time someone drops something.

But the whole thing is premised on the silly notion that anyone who supports Ukraine is just some kind of war nut, so it's all rather pointless anyway.

And also against (or critical of) the Ukrainian State and yet for the resistance against the occupation/fighting the Russian State and military. Although what exactly being for or against anything actually means for most/all of us in reality is another point.

It's very easy to be overwhelmed by the void of the latter unfortunately.
