TV series recommendations general (excluding Netflix/ Amazon)

It’s Netflix.
Thanks. I'll look out for it.

It's hard with some of these stories to understand how the victim was fooled. It's easy to think that it wouldn't happen to me.

But maybe it would and I just haven't come across a manipulator as skilled as Sweet Bobby

I agree the bit when she met him in a club and he blanked her was difficult to understand especially as she didn’t mention it to him again (not a spoiler as the show starts with this fact).

Never mind Farrell (good as he is in this though)- Cristin Milioti as Sofia Falcone is superlative.

Episode 4 of The Penguin is the single best episode of television I've seen since Succession. Just wow.
The problem is that you also said that the Star Wars series whose name temporarily escapes me was the best thing on TV in many years. You’ve worn out your credibility with too many superlatives for stuff that’s just okay.

There’s so much shite at the moment. Even “Only Murders in the Building” has run out of steam. I can’t even be bothered to watch the most recent episode. And I loved that show. It just feels like it should have ended.

Tried Kaos. Loved the idea. Couldn’t bear the realisation.

Perfect Couple. It has Dakota Fanning. She can save anything. She didn’t. A dud.

We liked series one of Everyone Else Burns. There’s nothing persuading us to watch any more of season two.

Daddy Issues. I just like comedy to be funny. Dick pic gags can be funny. But in that show’s hands, it wasn’t.

Really loved season one of Colin From Accounts. Season two seemed pointless. We haven’t bothered finishing it.

Ripley and Slow Horses were great. Loved them both.

But can’t see anything that good on the horizon.

danny la rouge There is an espionage show coming call The Agency which is an American remake of the french series called The Bureau. I'm looking forward to it.

The last series of Industry was excellent too.
I didn’t fancy Industry. I’ll give the Agency a go when it comes out. 👍

I’m also awaiting the English language version of Astrid et Raphaëlle, and the next seasons of the Silo and 3 Body Problem.

Enojoying War of the Worlds on channel 5. Three episodes in - grim, gripping realist and apocolyptic. A hard boiled, modern take on the HG wells story - full of charachters having to adjust to the end of the world and a remorsless, merciless. genocidal enemy. Refreshingly free of the usual hollywood/action adventure cliches. Lots of "fucking hell!" moments. Reminds me of threads - but not as bleak cos a. although things look grim its not hopeless and b. its not a scenario that so chillingly within the reals of reasonable possibitly - so you can enjoy the complete destruction of civilisation far more.

Netflix john wick 4... why is this move 3 hours long ffs could of been like 100 minutes long and would of been a better movie

Try Nobody Wants This, it's a sisters podcast rabbi romcom and a lot funnier than it sounds.

This year we been catching up on shows we missed or shows that transferred to other streamers before finishing

Absolutely bowled over by -

Twin Peaks The Return (Season 3)
Succession
Watchmen
The Good Fight
Veep

Imho, there's always something amazing to track down and watch. Especially with the likes of YouTube for classic series and films .

I really want to like The Cleaner and I watch them all because Greg Davies. But it’s not 1/8 as good as it could or should be. I’m not even sure I can articulate why.

Episode 4 of The Penguin is the single best episode of television I've seen since Succession. Just wow.

It’s good, and gripping, and we’re probably in it for the long haul, despite never having seen a Batman film since the one with Pfeiffer as Catwoman, but there’s sometimes a disconnect between the prestige HBO mob drama and the legacy comic universe elements - especially in episode four, because Arkham is stylistically and clinically a century behind the rest of this show’s Gotham.

It’s a four out of five for me.

epsiode 4 being nearly all a flashback wound me up. Its always ep 3 or 4. Fuck off. Still its good enough to keep me so far.

Have you watched Douglas Is Cancelled on ITVX?

I've only watched the first series. I gave up at first but returned to it later and found it entertaining.

DI Ray on ITV is good. The main character is an Asian female police officer. A change from the usual tv police lead characters. It shows how she is treated in a negative stereotypical way by her police superior officers and colleagues. I haven't checked the scriptwriters but I feel there must be input by someone who has experienced and understands unspoken everyday racism, so maybe I appreciate the series more than someone who hasn't experienced that.
I thought the first series was excellent, still available on ITVX if you didn't see it. So far I don't think this series has as good a plot line, a tad unbelievable but I suppose drama has to be exaggerated.
But it still highlights ongoing underlying racist microaggressions, if you are aware of racism and can recognise them.
