Still the Enemy Within Day Event:

Remembering the 1984-85 Miners’ Strike, learning lessons for today:
Venue: RichMix: 35 Bethnal Green Road, London E1 6LA (nearest tube Shoreditch, Liverpool Street,)
Date: Saturday 8 March, 12 noon-9pm.

Film, long lost archive, music and debate from the strike that divided Britain and defined an era.

Films include: Preview of Still the Enemy Within, Dancing in Dulais, Battle of Orgreave, Miners’ Campaign Tapes, plus UK premiere of Miners Shot Down – the Marikana miners’ struggle.

Speakers include: Seumas Milne, Paul Mason, Women Against Pit Closures, Mike Jackson, (co-founder Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners), members of Test Department, Paul Symonds, Joe Henry and other former striking miners and more.

I'm surprised there are only 44 backers for the 10 pounds pledge, well, I think I will make it 45 and hopefully more will get on board.

just noticed they have another 36,000 through Sponsume, but still want more donations, looks like it is going to be a significant film.
 
This Saturday (8th Feb) the team needs a large number of extras to help them recreate some key moments from the strike.Filming will be all day from 0800 onwards in Haringey, North London.
WANTED:

  • 40 MEN to play miners of picketing age (16-55)
  • MEN, WOMEN and CHILDREN (ALL AGES) to play back ground parts in the social club (all children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian).
  • Any old Coal not Dole posters from the strike that can be used to dress the set.

Wonder if any Urbs went along

  • 30 years after the Great Miner's Strike public rally, March 7, Sheffield Library Theatre, 7pm: Speakers Ken Capstick, former vice-president of Yorkshire NUM, Arthur Critchlow, arrested for riot at Orgreave, Barbara Jackson of thee Orgreave Truth and Justice Campaign (OTJC), Flis Callow and Christine Poland from Women Against Pit Closures, journalist Mike Simmons, plus a film and photographic exhibition.
  • Settling Scores: The Media, the Police and the Miner's Strike, Thursday March 13, 7pm, council chamber Leeds Civic Hall, with Karen Reay UNITE regional secretary, Barbara Jackson (OTJC), Nick Jones, former BBC industrial correspondent and Ray Riley, former miner at Frickley Colliery.
  • Wakefield Socialist History Group commemoration on March 1 at the Red Shed, Vicarage Street, Wakefield, from 1pm to 4pm, with author Granville Williams on behalf of (OTJC), ex-NUM official Ken Rowley, Sally Kincaid ofWakefield NUT and Christopher Emms of Unite.
  • Striking Back! a commemoration and OTJC fundraiser, Rotherham Trades Club, Greasbrough Road, Rotherham, Friday March 21 at 7pm. Tickets are £10 waged/£3 unwaged, includes a screening of The Battle for Orgreave and music from the Banner Theatre. Contact Emma on 07928 497869.
  • Sunday, March 9 at 11am, Broadway Hotel, Dunscroft, Doncaster, opened by Chris Skidmore, president of Yorkshire Area NUM. Speakers include David Douglass, former Hatfield Main branch NUM branch official and ''strike baby'' Rachel Horne.
  • April 5, Yorkshire Main Celebration of Unity day, Edlington, including march through Edlington with the Edlington Women Against Pit Closures followed by bands at the Top Club, featuring The Hurriers.
  • Orgreave Mass Picnic and Festival, a celebration of struggle and resistance. Speakers, live music, stalls, refreshments, Saturday June 14th, Catcliffe Recreation Ground, 11am to 6pm.
