This will end well: Pakistan downs Indian jets

"Hold me back and let me at him" - what could possibly go wrong?

It's more than that - if India wanted to really put the boot in it could do, the strikes on Pakistan are a tiny proportion of what it could do if it wanted to, and this isn't a rushed job with what's available, it's a planned operation with several weeks to get as many aircraft available for operations.

Had India wanted to it could probably have put something like 500 reasonably capable fast jets over Pakistan with AWACS and tanker support on the first night. It didn't, so it doesn't.

India has an immense armed force at the ready. I understand they expect a major run in with China at some point in the future?

I sometimes wonder if Pakistan's best option would be to ask India to take them back, but that's probably a non-starter.

Pakistan is the annoying neighbour china's the "real" enemy :hmm: they started I kid you not a shoving match in Bhutan.

Military procurement is legendary for all the wrong reason the Inas rifle spits hot oil in your face the tejas fighter is decades late

If only they had stayed with good old HMG.

Oh.

Industry people I've worked 'opposite' in the past bring war stories of dealing with India - some companies simply don't bother bidding for work as it's not worth the hassle. Dealing with HMG might be exasperating, but the problems are logical ones with solutions, and it pays reasonably well, and when it says it will.

Not something that can be said about dealing with the Indian MOD...

The logistics of trying to fight in the Himalayas and with China having to supply across the Tibetan Plateau mean it would only ever be a small scale confrontations with light infantry, special forces, mountain troop type units engaging. China has Russia to its north and India has Pakistan across the Thar desert and into the foot hills of the mountains. That is the kind of tank country where both will see their heavy metal deployed.

That said in the modern era of smart munitions, the ability of fighter bombers to hit critical choke points means that few have the capacity to keep the resource hungry modern armored divisions supplied in the face of a relatively competently managed series of tip and run by a modern air force. Really big armored engagements are a rare thing in the modern world. Few have happened since the end of the Iran Iraq War other than the US's two swatting aside of Iraqi formations. Precision weapons plus insurgencies seem to be able to drain them (See for example the Israelis last big excursion into Lebanon).

I doubt the logistics people on the respective general staffs are coming up with plans like "7 days to Karachi\Dehli".

Poor innocent civilians again!

That's the norm in war. Poor sods that are more interested in getting their kids to school and paying the electricity bill are always victims of fucking idiotic politicians and extremist religious nutters.
When will the human race ever learn?

I remember reading something about this a few years back as well, apparently it's a major concern of the Pakistani military than the Americans will show up mob handed one day and take all their toys off them.

That's silly - America never attacks anyone that could potentially hit back.
