Things to look out for in Lidl and Aldi

Was given a bottle of the Lidl bailey's stuff - surprisingly nice, bit less rich than the real thing but good enough and i made a killer cheesecake with it. For a bargainous £3.75 a bottle.

The houseplants are really good value in Lidl atm if you get there before they all get snapped up. You could pay 40 or 50 quid for the four foot Dracaena I bought for £10.99. Also bought a smaller one for a fiver and a capsicum plant for £3.99.

Boss has just come-in raving about the variety of well-priced gins apparently in Aldi at the moment - and here's me thinking he was just late from a doctors appointment..! :D

Top tip, thank you!

I got a dracaena for £10.99. Looked them up on google and what looks like an equivalent costs anything between £60 and £80.

You're welcome. Internet chitchat says water them well at first (something to do with Lidl having to keep them dry for H&S reasons if they have them in store) then you can just water them as and when. A really good buy if they last though. Like you say, you could pay 5 or 6 times as much elsewhere.

Aldi specially selected cauliflower cheese pie with oaty crumble topping. I had one yesterday and even though I've just had my brekker I could have another, right now.

I had no idea - got an enormous one that I've had for about 18 years. Not from Lidl.

But second the recommendation for their plants - I got a passion flower in the summer and it's completely covered the wall it's on and flowered loads. And got a ficus that's doing really well too.

Lidl has 'artisan' (I don't really know what this means - presumably that a human squirted the flavouring in as opposed to a robot?) flavoured gins in at the moment. Friend who works there says they only release a few at a time and people fight over them, so if you're interested get in there early.

I'm hoping to be able to buy a couple of Katie carrots when they go on sale on Sunday morning. I've got a couple of Kevin ones.

Just got a pretty good, small bluetooth speaker in Lidl for £20, comparable to ones I've paid £40 for elsewhere. Also doing good coffee grinders for a tener. Much bigger bowl than my old one. Means I can keep one for coffee and one for spices

Anyone tried the dark rums in Lidl?

I had a look at the weekend when using their carpark, but most looked suspiciously like standard supermarket made up label on cheapo rum type bottles. The spiced rum might have been decent, but I don't go for spiced rum overly much. One of the dark rums looked like it might have been a decent brand I'd never heard of, or at least that's what I'm hoping. I'm not looking for Sainsburys own or Captain Morgan type swill.

I don't know about Lidl, but Aldi were doing a 7 year aged rum for about £15 yesterday.

Looked proper tasty.

Aldi are doing authentic skyr alongside their British knockoff. Economics of imported yogurt don’t work and having tried it can’t say it’s worth the difference so sticking to the 49p local version over the 99p import.

Has anyone mentioned this yet? It's gorgeous and only £1.49
I only have one square at a time because it's really rich and also the time that I had two squares I was awake half the night.

It's not with the other chocolate in my Lidl, it's in another isle with random stuff

I love that stuff, I grate it into hot chocolate or on my coffee.
