Things to look out for in Lidl and Aldi

Aldi have at last got a few more French wines in. I was starting to worry I would soon have to risk their cotes du rhone or switch loyalty to another country...

Things to look out for in Lidl? A staffed till, but really don't get your hopes up.
Yes quite!
There's only one at the small branch I use and no one there but, to be fair, one of the staff will oblige if necessary. I will also say that there are always at least two staff in the self service till area and they are very helpful and polite if you get stuck with anything.
Big up the Stroud Green Road Lidl

Lidl had an eastern Mediterranean themed week

So I bought some tahini and harissa paste but don’t really know what to do with them, what sort of things can I add them too.

I can confidently cook a meat or veg curry, veg chilli, meat or veg stir fry, a generic tomato based pasta sauce, a generic veg based soup and that’s about it

I've made this before and it's lush - it freezes well too.
I reckon it would be OK made with chicken too if you don't like lamb.

Red cabbage tahini coleslaw.

Harrissa just use as a dip.

This dip below is the dog's bollocks, I managed to go to Egypt which was a bit of a dream for me, many years ago - and this was served with pretty much every meal.

Goes particularly well with grilled or BBQd meat or fish or falafel or veggie kebab type meals, with some salad and any sort of flat bread or crusty bread to go with. Absolutely delicious.

Tahini is good in salad dressing.

I don't recommend this cheapo Aldi wine except for well into a meal...
Not undrinkable like their Cotes Du Rhone - less acidity and a decent amount of body, but I won't buy it again..

This is 100% what you do with Tahini. Compared to hummus it is lighter, smokier, nuttier and tastier and much easier to make.

Unlike hummus it is not shelf or fridge stable, which is why you don't see it in the shops, unlike the million types of hummus you can buy.

Left-of-field suggestion, but I find the combination of tahini and kiwi fruit very compelling. Otherwise, it makes an easy dip that goes with a lot of stuff. If it can go in a kebab wrap, it can go everywhere.
Harissa is just spicy red paste, so goes in anything with tomatoes where the middle-eastern note won't wreak havoc. Or thin it with a little oil and brush something you intend to roast. I find it a bit meh so don't let it play first fiddle, but many people love it.

I've said it before and I can't imagine ever being able to indulge again, but hot granary bread dunked straight into light tahini was deadly...

Try this , I love it

Lidl don't seem to be doing their Favorina Continental Biscuit Selection for Xmas this year, I'm distraught, they were lovely. 😢

If anyone sees any, let me know!

Aldi have messed with their peanut butter again.
The shelves were stuffed with the palm oil version.
There was also a load of new recipe "wholenut" that looked rather light in colour and also turned out to contain palm oil.
So once more I have to resist the temptation of having a whole kilo of wholenut crunchy in the house :p
