The Trump presidency

bannon (from that same speech) :
"I certainly think secularism has sapped the strength of the Judeo-Christian West to defend its ideals, right?

If you go back to your home countries and you're a proponent of the defense of the Judeo-Christian West and its tenets, oftentimes, particularly when you deal with the elites, you’re looked at as someone who is quite odd."

Just don't look at him like he's odd, it only encourages him.

Interesting vampire squid cartoon.

She talks about " the traffic pile up of Goldman personalities in Trump’s corner " but doesn't mention Steve Bannon at all, who also worked there, which seems peculiar.

Bannon's musings, looking back on what he learnt whilst at Goldman Sachs:
"We’re not conspiracy-theory guys, but there’s certainly — and I could see this when I worked at Goldman Sachs — there are people in New York that feel closer to people in London and in Berlin than they do to people in Kansas and in Colorado, and they have more of this elite mentality that they’re going to dictate to everybody how the world’s going to be run.."

I wonder how that will work out. The chief strategist and (for the moment) most trusted advisor has very different priorities from these other ex-goldman bankers whom she warns us to beware of.
Longtime since Bannon worked at Goldman. He makes these politically useful hostile dog whistle noises about an international cabal. And then he doesn't as a cabinet full of such swamp creatures gathers around Trump. All the time he's bankrolled by a hedge fund billionaire. It smells off to me.

I think a lot of this is the rather wealthy and very well connected Bannon tactically posing as the champion of the common man. An awful lot of far right politics is like that. Basically a grift by misdirection. You get the public all bugging out about some bullshit conspiracy and then you get to dip their pockets.

Trump has a similar schtick of being an all knowing insider of the great liberal elite conspiracy against Joe Public. From what I can see what the amoral Trump knows is how to make big bucks out of all this with a set of Wall St rogues like this around him eager for the feeding frenzy of flipping public assets to follow. I suspect he has nothing but contempt for folk who fall for this just like the twits using his fake university.

Anyone with half a brain could have told him the myriad of legal issues and fuck up that'll tie this ban up in knots. Similarly his exe order to make the US military the strongest in the world, unless he can actually get a budget together he's fucked.

Nope he's not.

CrabbedOne If I thought you were right I'd sleep better. I hope you are right and it's all just basically business as usual, new faces same old self interest.
But in the case of Bannon I don't think so, I reckon he does have beliefs and convictions which are not pragmatic but deeply ideological if not 'spiritual', a sort of manichaeism. Like Pence, who is not pretending when he says that Darwin got it wrong.
Trump himself doesn't worry me that much, he's obviously devoid of an internal life.

That buzzfeed is very interesting actually. I had not come across it before. Am I missing something - How come Bannon seems to be so anti crony and despot Kapitalism, yet seems to be working for ..erm.. someone who is only rich because of despotic crony Kapitalism

Yes, it's an interesting read isn't it.
He said a while ago that Trump is "a blunt instrument", and he wasn't sure how things would work out.

Ah, here it is:
" Trump is a “blunt instrument for us,” he told me earlier this summer. “I don’t know whether he really gets it or not.” It is likely that Bannon’s political calculus here, if not Trump’s, will be less about winning an election that seems a bit out of hand and more about cementing an American nationalist movement."

Strange bedfellows for strange times. Some shared values, I'm guessing. I wonder how Bannon feels about Trump's plans to be "Israel's best friend"?

Israel & Jews not the same thing.
You'd have to spend more time than you want to on Breitbart to unravel how he feels about that one. :p

Ugh, can't bear the idea. And yes, am very aware Israel & Jews are not the same thing. Just wondering how far Bannon's alleged anti-semitism stretches without resorting to his organ!

I might be a bit obsessed with Steve Bannon.
More about the evolution of his worldview here, through people who knew him before he got to where he's at.

"Bannon, who kept a photo of Ronald Reagan over his desk, started down a more hard-line path of conservative thought after the 2001 terrorist attacks, according to those who knew him during his time in Hollywood.
“He went further into a world of absolutes — black and white, good versus evil,” Jones said. “He was so open to such a world of great thinkers. I don’t know how that same person could have chosen such a narrow path.”
...
"“I think recognition of the imago Dei — that man is made in the image and likeness of God — runs all the way through Steve Bannon’s thought in a sincere way,” Harnwell said in an email".

I suspect Bannon has the same views quite a few fundamentalist Christians. They despise Jewish people as people (still believing the Jews killed Jesus), but believe the they have to be "restored" to the Holy Land for the Rapture to take place. They back the state of Israel (and give lots of cash to Zionist causes) because they see it as instrumental for making that goal happen. I don't think they're too bothered whether Jews go voluntarily (and anti-semitic attacks might prompt this) or are deported. Either way, America gets "cleansed" of Jews, and the End of Days gets closer. Yay! :(

This explains it in more detail.

I know Trump's son in law is Jewish, but fundamentalist Christians are always good at making exceptions if it suits their agenda.

Third time it's been posted, but it is very thought provoking. I genuinely think the Trump administration are pushing boundaries as far as they can to see what they can get away with. The more people are prepared to accept their bullshit, the more they know they can push even further tomorrow, and the next day.

Waiting for DJT's response to the statement from President Obama. Will it be his Android based projectile vomiting, or Bannon's measured yet sinister ghosted statement from Iphone?

Could this be next on the list?

Sources: Trump executive order allowing anti-LGBTQ discrimination is coming soon

An executive order from President Donald Trump opening up discrimination against the LGBTQ community on the basis of religious belief is expected sometime this week, possibly as soon as today.

Several sources spoke with LGBTQ Nation on the condition of anonymity who have told us that the order will allow for discrimination in a number of areas, including employment, social services, business, and adoption.

From what we’ve heard, the executive order could be far-reaching, and could include: making taxpayer funds available for discrimination against LGBTQ people in social services; allow federally funded adoption agencies to discriminate against LGBTQ parents; eliminate non-discrimination protections in order to make it possible to fire federal employers and contractors based on their sexual orientation or gender identity; and allow federal employees to refuse to serve people based on the belief that marriage should be between a man and a woman, and that gender is an immutable characteristic set at birth, which would impact a broad range of federal benefits.

The order is expected to come in the packaging of so-called “religious freedom,” which argues that someone’s religious beliefs should be enough to prevent them from having to provide goods and services to members of the LGBTQ community if doing so would conflict with said beliefs.

You can buy this in the US Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC. :(
