What do you think it was?

Come on: tell me something that will help put my mind at ease. :)

- I just saw your answer above...

ok, and for further clarification, I think he was tipped off (and possibly Hillary as well) to the extent of the Russian connection in the Trump camp, and that they were probably reassured that this administration would implode pretty quickly because of this. And that after getting this info, he was thus able to relinquish his sense of obligation in terms of fighting Trump and protecting people.

think about it...Obama, Hillary, and even Bernie to some degree have been hanging back a little too obviously in what are some of the most contentious times in the history of their party, and of the Republican party. It really seems to me like they are all waiting for the chips to fall before they address any of this.

On TDB Christie: Trump Made Me Try Meatloaf
Chris Christie said on Thursday that during his meal at the White House this week with President Trump, he was made to order the meatloaf on the menu. According to Christie's account on a New York sports talk radio show, Trump allegedly pointed out the menu and said to the other guests that they could get whatever they want. Then he reportedly said he and Christie would have the meatloaf. “This is what it’s like to be with Trump,” Christie said. “He says, ‘There’s the menu, you guys order whatever you want.’ And then he says, ‘Chris, you and I are going to have the meatloaf.’”
Meatloaf shaming!

I feel like that's a very obvious metaphor for what he's doing to this country

"You'll have the meatloaf, just trust me"

"But I don't like meatloaf?"

"You'll have the meatloaf, it's the BEST meatloaf"

"But meatloaf makes me sick"

"Trust me, I'm a businessman, and I know my meatloaf"

"But I wanted the shrimp pasta"

"No, I know what's best. You'll have the meatloaf"

"But..." :(

Wow, how much longer can he last? it's surreal.
There's much talk of the deep state, the intelligence agencies, working to get rid of him. Not a coup, but constant leaks, withholding info from him, and the many ways these organizations have of undermining a politician. Scary though....not the way a democracy should get rid of the leader no matter how crazy and incompetent he is.

You're right; but one has to wonder: how many politicians did J. Edgar Hoover make or break via non-democratic means?

And according to some, that second term looks like a shoo-in, given the "liberal hysteria".

And according to Gorka on Newsnight, Trump's going to use YouTube and other social media to address the people directly, and bypass the "dishonest media". This will end well.
oh this will end well

that strategy worked well for Corbyn here. :hmm:
:D Trump fancies himself as a media man and it seems to be his natural element in a way it's never been for Corbyn. I reckon it will work well for Trump as his base will love it and no one will be listening to the take downs. It will be even more polarising.

Worked for Alex Jones and David Icke ...

I'm not sure about that. His base is a fairly small hardcore of vocal headbangers - the mainstream republican voters holding their noses and voting for him are what won him the election more than anything else.
I hope you're right and that the nose-holders will be able to let go. Before the election there were people saying the GOP was finished but there isn't much dissent among the ranks so far.

His base are committed and will take a long time to acknowledge any error. The rest of Republicans apart from a small band of #NeverTrumpers will vote for him again to keep a Dem out provided he doesn't tank the economy and comes through with elite tax cuts. He can start wars run up the deficit, shred medicare, play fast and loose with the constitution, flagrantly fatten up himself and all his Wall St cronies off state funds and they won't care. Incumbents tend to have an advantage.
