The Trump presidency

His comments on nuclear/uraniam were like listening to a child who has just discovered some new facts and is keen to share them. A bit terrifying really.

Sometimes during the campaign it seemed he was quite bright, like he was intentionally using the media to his advantage. I'm beginning to think it was just sheer luck that his ways of communicating allowed him to dominate the news cycle, and in fact he's even less bright than GWB. Never thought I'd see that in my lifeime.

Not smart. Cunning maybe.

He talks like a simpleton. The circular repetision of meaningless assertions. He's probably had some speech training that's emphasized deliver a short positive statement but he can't improvise around it because he doesn't actually know that much about fuck all. I suspect LBJ's right, and it's an attention span thing, combined with massively inflated ego. Possibly he's a bit senile too.

Either way, as long as the Republican machinery can keep him out front as a shield, gently divert his ravings into something legally effective and let him have his ego wank, he'll be there for the duration.

FBI Arrests White Supremacist Planning Synagogue Attack After Trump Bristles at Anti-Semitism Question
...
But today’s performance was far more damaging. Instead of addressing the question directly or seriously, Trump interpreted it as a charge that he himself was anti-Semitic. In fact, the questioner, an ultra Orthodox reporter, Jake Turx, had pointedly rejected the claim that Trump was anti-Semitic. Further, Turx had interviewed Trump just after his election victory and attributed it to “the Creator.”

The president, oblivious to the fact that he’d met the reporter before and that he was essentially a pro-Trump media shill, called Turx’s question insulting and claimed that its premise was based on “lies” (the reporter had accurately mentioned 50 anti-Semitic threats against Jewish communal institutions in the past month or so).
...
Well that could have gone better. You'd think a friendly Ultra Orthodox reporter throwing soft ball questions would be memorable to Trump. All he had to do was condemn such attacks. Trump may have some latent traces of old Queens bigotry here but he clearly loves his converted Jewish daughter. He's just so painfully defensive when there's any possible hint of criticism of The Donald.

Whether he's a sociopath or mere narcissist, he seems to have an instinctive set of tools to avoid pesky things like rationality and truth. He's a machine for overriding conversations and consequences, he's a populist - and let's be honest, it's brought him a long way. But as some kind of alpha male narcissist he's utterly unbending and that might be his undoing. In the face of what he sees as a personal slight, particularly if someone loudly and publicly stands up to him - even more so, face to face - he's going to flip. I'm not getting all Ickey, but there is a possibility he'll do something 'Monstrous' (rather than the more routine monstrosity of his regular policies). As someone who can only see the world in terms of it's effects on him, who knows, have an opponent hospitalised? Military incursions? Closing a news channel (in fact it's a near certainty he'll get specific journalists sacked)? Was getting close to the first of these in some of the campaign rallies.

The big risk with this guy is he runs into someone who really doesn't like overgrown schoolyard bullies and clocks his vulnerability. Because I think Trump is mean and a braggart but really not the bravest little soldier around. Out of his depth, all mouth, with fragile nerves, slow on his feet and more tinny than steely. If that person gets right in his face to see if he'll fold it either ends up in US humiliation or a very nasty panicked escalation. Both Putin and Xi are capable of that sort of cold gamble. Neither are men to let an obvious pussy go ungrabbed.

here we go

1) no more pesky compliance for the coalmining industry.Yay!
2) Women - women are so exciting, in our economy. I am going to help women entrepreneurs and business leaders, believe me, nobody respects women entrepreneurs and business leaders more than i do.
3) I met with my friend Bibi - me and him are going to confront and defeat terrors. Me and Israel we share a deep commitment to protect "all innocent human life".

Possibly but not without the backing or overtly blind eyeing of the Republican mainstream. Doesn't make those possibilities any the less worrying granted.

CRI makes this thread very bad, they have ruined what was once not shit
He's made two posts today from what I can see. One to link to a report that would appear entirely relevant, and one to post some clip about I know not what.

Just shove him on ignore.

If there wasn't enough to keep me awake at night . . . what happens when the next public health crisis emerges?
