The stupidity of the anti-vaxx nutcases

Here's Mike Graham, a talk radio cunt, bullying a child.

Report this cunt. Get him banned.

The original tweet (as mentioned by Prof Christina Pagel). The kid's account has been, apparently, closed. Mike Graham is a fucking piece of shit

Another anti-vaxxer regrets his views on as he faces death from covid.

Not sad about dishonest trumpist pricks shuffling off this mortal coil after discouraging others from protecting themselves, but in general I do have sympathy for deniers dying from this, they’re victims of being misled no less than red wall Tory voters or people buying washing machine descaler in soft water areas. Lots of people on here losing friends to this shit and I’m sure they’re not wishing harm on friends and family, you might get them back sometime. People respond to the information they are given, and whilst there is a certain arrogance in the surety some have that they are right in swimming against the tide, it’s not something that should carry a death sentence.

I do wonder if some of the families of victims or some of the survivors might go after the YouTube misinformation grifters with lawsuits etc., they probably have every right to, particularly in the litigious USA.

If a person really finds that video hilarious I think they have worse problems than he did tbh.

I'm pretty disgusted by the tone of a lot of the ongoing mockery, especially of people dying. Most people who are ''stupid antivaxx nutcases'' have been conned, lied to and tricked. It could, quite literally, happen to any of us. The superior attitude of ''oh no not me I'm too clever for that shit" is .. shit.

Believing obvious lies and untruths, regardless of evidence or experience, to me, hints at (if not massive-red-flags) mental illness. So what I'm seeing here is unwell people being laughed at, ffs even a guy (is he mentally ill? Who knows, let's just laugh along lol) getting tazed by police is treated as a joke.

of course it's horrible that they die. A very few though, not so sad - they grifters who are making money, etc.

It must be happening all over the place, though - not caring enough to be careful and/or being anti vax, it's going to be a common thing. whether they will die at statistically higher rates than those who are vaxed etc is another matter. Is there data on this yet?

Looks like its pretty clear yes.

The same can be said for people who do 70 in 30mph zones. Probably mentally ill in some respect, or just selfish to the extreme. But the visciral, valid real reaction to those who see it as it flies by in the street is anger. And fear. Many have not cared about the wellfare of their fellows from the start of the pandemic.

jesus. frightening.

I'm not into the 'they must be mentally ill' thing. Unless you're going to say all religious people & people who think Johnson is a great Pm are mentally ill too.

So antivaxxers are all religious, and all voted conservative?
I'm not sure these three types are necessarily the same people, and I'm not sure these things are all equal.

Anyway, I'm not out to spoil anyone's fun. Laugh away.

I'm not laughing! Wrong end of stick. Not saying they're the same people, just that there are plenty of humans who believe untrue things.

I know what you mean - but ''god'' isn't demonstrably untrue .. though I believe that yes, people who think BJ is a good PM probably are mentally ill .. or at least personality disordered.

Believing that vaccines are anything other than a good thing, though .. believing something so easily disprovable by even a cursory bit of reading .. not even attempting to .. this, to me, is not 'stupidity', but something else.

I keep thinking about how i raised my voice at my silly little Mum about it, I'm so not a shouter and it brought me to that. In her case i can see perfectly well that she has been duped by a particular source of misinformation, and that is where the anger belongs not with her, not with the one who has been lied to.

and the source has been lied/misled too as well.

If we were in a village being menaced by a tiger, I'd prefer nobody got killed by the tiger - but if it's going to drag anybody off, I'd prefer it to be the loudest voices who tried to persuade others that tigers aren't real and worked to sabotage the building of a wall to keep the tiger out.

And if its meal happened to be a preacher who had loudly insisted that tigers only eat the worst sinners, I think I'd find some humour in it.

always interesting when the reactions against covid deniers is seen as problematic "shouldn't laugh/mock/hate" etc

but the reactors/mockers are never given the same sympathy. "lets sympathise and try to understand why people get so angry at covid deniers"

i can very much understand and sympathise with some of the anger and mockery expressed on this thread. in fact it's been kinda helpful to me than trying to expel efforts of sympathy and understanding on people who literally have not given two shits about the welfare of someone like my mum from the start. I've had enormous life changing personal shit to deal with throughout the pandemic - locked for months behind closed doors - and I get a message from a close friend saying "baaaaaaaaaaa". but no, stuff those feelings - sympathise!

is understanding and sympathy and preventing this stuff necessary - of course - no one has said not - the two dynamics - anger, rage,/sympathy, understanding, are both equally as valid.

So does tiger balm prevent so-called 'COVID'?

"A uniformed far-right group entered an orphanage in an effort to stop children from being given coronavirus vaccines. The incident is the latest in a series of increasingly aggressive actions by Polish “anti-vaxxers”, which the authorities are seeking to tackle"

I'm not sure why 'dodgy'. Calling people who are likely mentally ill 'stupid" and mocking them for sincerely-held delusions is dodgier IMO

You're internet diagnosing hundreds of thousands (probably more) of people in this country as mentally ill or personality disordered on the basis of thinking political thoughts you disagree with, and you don't think that's dodgy?

This isn't the Brexit thread.

I'm not 'diagnosing' anyone, don't be silly. I'm expressing a view. Facetiously. If I'm wrong, feel free to call me 'stupid', it's what we do nowadays when we disagree innit.

This isn't the Brexit thread.

Correct. It's a thread where we share collective laughter and scorn about individuals who may well in fact be mentally ill. Not that we know they are .. but we don't know they aren't, either.

Call it catharsis, ok. But if we're using terms like 'dodgy' then this is dodgy as fuck. 'Nutcases' ffs.
