The Reform UK Party (latest nigel farage vehicle) is it to be laughed at or not

I can see Reform doing well in the next Scottish elections.

People have had more than enough of the SNP, but Starmer has fucked things for Labour. The Conservatives lost Scotland decades ago, so who is left to vote for?

Have they tried to establish any sort of local identity? Realise there's Farage types everywhere but they do seem parochially English, if that would matter.

Scottish, Westminster polling since the GE certainly indicates some degree of convergence between the governing parties and the right-wing opposition, and I assume the Scottish parliament polling shows similar trends?

I hear what you’re saying regarding the SNP, Labour and Tories… but surely not? My bet would be that the Labour and Tory votes will rebound but not with enthusiasm, and not to previous levels. And that turnout will be low.

If I've understood correctly, the forum where a lot of the newer people have been posting is increasingly restrictive and on a right-wing trajectory, so posting a meme of Trump or Farage might be seen as transgressive over there.

I don't like seeing loads of people lumped together as "stupid", lower-status etc. A lot of us had our fill of it over the Summer (not so much on here), hearing shit politics repeatedly about the rioters being thick, jobless, working class, estate scum etc. Not to mention seeing people with intellectual disabilities being used as the butt of jokes in 2024, while many of those people are locked up and abused (plenty of examples here).

BUT I really don't think (and fucking hope not) that people doing the mocking memes here are thinking "I love ripping the piss out of people with intellectual disabilities and working class people."

Just going "BLAGGHHHHH!" at people isn't going to make people think they're in the wrong cos you've made such a great point.

Obvs, I am also new (no, not a returner, yawn).

Usual caveats re. polling weaknesses etc. but from earlier this month polling suggested this particular Holyrood outcome:

With the vile refUKers getting some seats, proportionately at the vermin's greatest expense.

well tbf Clacton is know known as one of the most racist sea side town in the uk
so it has some sort of locality

south end on sea is in the running for the title again mind..

Your taking the fucking piss dystopiary ms right wi g go and fuck.yoursrlf with a 10 foot curtain.pole.
This is really offensive and out of order. Are you drunk? If it’s an attempt at humour it has certainly failed.

Dystopiary is one of the most compassionate and thoughtful posters on these boards, your response to a well argued and reasonable post is the sort of shit that has absolutely no place on urban.

Meant in Scotland specifically, as Farage has spent a lot of time being offensive about the country IIRC so probably need a local brand.
ah you got rangers fans who tend to vote for the conservative and unionist party..

they tend to be just racist enough to vote reform :hmm:

You’ve been funny in the past, but you’ve annoyed me. Dystopiary is a great poster, and the kind needed.

The kind not needed (join date irrelevant) :

- pointless, low quality, ableist memes, devoid of content.

- liberal landfill I could find on Facebook if I wanted.

Wow, the hypocrisy is astounding.

If any of us newbies had posted that, we would get called out for shitposting vids etc.

It seems some are more equal than others.
Nobody knows what was on that video. Nobody watched it.

Not meant in a patronising way, and not one any of us follow consistently, but the answer to feeling attacked is not always to go on the attack.

Unfortunately, due to decline of industry tourism and jobs; some of the seaside towns have fallen by the wayside. And then the long term residents see newcomers in their town and wonder if they are getting preferential treatment. Obviously not, but it's kinda understandable (but not necessarily agreeable) that some of the people get angry and turn their attention to someone they believe will champion their plight.

Those that set themselves up as champions tend to be anything of the sort and thrive on headlines and notoriety and are more likely to be the enemy of the disenfranchised - be they newcomers or established.

It's incredibly shit and there is a desperate need for unity against the charlatans.

Divisive comments rarely play well here; try to emancipate yourself from perceived previous alliances and post from your own heart. See how that goes, eh?

What do you think I was saying there? I'll give you a hint, it's about posturing and futility. Really, you should go for that walk.
