The Reform UK Party (latest nigel farage vehicle) is it to be laughed at or not

Who made you fucking boss are you on the fucking comitee? Soon as new people have a view on sommat should we private message you wether its a go?
If you concur with the view that that the forum is populated by humourless, wanker bullies I'd imagine that you'd be looking elsewhere to post, tbh. You don't need a boss, a committee or any private messaging to see that maybe it's not the right community for you?

Assuming that many of those you engage with on here do not also engage in real life activism, sounds like projection.
It's also quite silly to assume the tone people take on a forum full of other lefties is the way they approach say, their next door neighbours. I live near an older, single, mostly a-political woman worried about an influx of Eastern European men in the town centre, quite clearly I'm not expecting the same of her or talking to her in the same way as I would someone who goes out of their way to post on the politics section of urban75.

And at least you can be sure she won't reply with shit memes and videos.

Tbh in my experience the fury with which the left sometimes conducts itself online is often matched by the timidity it employs in everyday life. I've seen people IRL sending their friends zesty memes about someone sitting a few feet away who'd not manage a mumbled "I disagree" in the meeting itself. In many ways I'd prefer a bit more fire and brimstone to be taking place on physical soapboxes rather than virtual ones.

It's telling, where the likes and reactions are going on this and the Trump thread.

It's the latest in a long history of urban divisions.

Alas, they can often take years to move on from. The civil wars here can cause scarring and enmity, some of which is completely avoidable.

Imho, I don't believe that most of our newcomers are posting in bad faith. They are definitely needed and welcome, but one or two have embarked on a peculiar path of aggravation.

And some of our oldies (myself included occasionally) are questioning the approach when it comes to class and basic humanity. Sometimes we get irked. Maybe we need to tone down the rhetoric, and perhaps some of the newcomers need to tone down the "jokes" which may get upvotes on other sites but don't really fly here.

Fwiw, I went through the gauntlet here twenty years ago and I thought it unfair at the time. I didn't stop to think that my crap jokes and jibes were seen as crass and disruptive. It took a while for me to get what this community is about.

Stick with it and when in doubt, hold a moment before jumping in. This place can be rough and tumble but it's also educational and you will get a lot out of it.

Not everyone criticising you is your enemy. And not everyone egging you on is your friend.

And that's my tupperware worth.

I am not humourless, but I won't sit back and allow the false narrative that some are trying to perpetuate. They've picked the wrong person to try and intimidate.

ah don't take it all to heart .. every one get a bit of a baptismal of fire in this place
more so if post quite a bit as it a long stand standing community

not read everything you been posting but people hear don't tend to be to mean spirited
cranky and contrary but not mean spirited :)

Getting called out for shit-posting is not a false narrative.

Like you, I came here after leaving another forum because I was not happy with the culture. Once I understood the culture here, I felt very comfortable and have stayed and learnt so much from others here. My first ever post was met with abuse but, you know, you learn.

I haven't left the other forum, so you're making assumptions there.
