The Great Blanket of 2008 thread

I'm getting quite into this - I find myself thinking about my 'stash' and possible colour combinations/spacing of stripes when I'm at work or before drifting off to sleep.

5 down.... 59 to go :D

My plan of making two of each square (to keep one and swap one) has gone down the drain - I'm already running out of spare wool :(

I've been ordered by my children to make them a blanket each. I may be knitting a few more squares than I first expected. Benefit is that I've found a huge tash of cotton and blends that I got for next to nothing a couple of years ago that will be absolutely perfect for this. I suspect I have enough to knit several hundred squares.

Ok... where can I get hold of some cheap-ish wool... want to make as many squares as possible, but can't really afford to buy full price wool at the mo. I'm checking ebay but don't really know what to search for, and I'm being distracted by vintage knitting bags  :D

texere? knitshop.co.uk? cucumberpatch? kempswoolshop?

texere certainly do bulk natural coloured stuff. If you want to dye it, you can do that with koolaid or food colourings and vinegar. others there are well known for sale stuff

oh gawds, I just counted squares this morning. Now before I admit to the number, remember I've been roped into making 2 biggr blankets for ye offspring.

115 so far.

To inspire you all

10. (It would have been 12, but the first two squares I made were two small and have since been turned into beer mats.)

We made a bit of a tactical error I thought yesterday by planning to do the blanket next year in spring: I want it NOW to help ward off the freezing cold! - I suppose it wouldn't have been feasible though to get all those squares done by now (for anyone but toggle, square knitter par excellence!), but I look forward to autumn 2008 under a super cosy blanket. (Admittedly I've got a very cosy fleece blanket right now, but it's not as pretty.)

Ok, I want to get back into this - does anyone know how to add patterns etc into the basic bias pattern (ie like the pale green sq, top row 3rd from right*) that has the lacey bits in it?

*cute pic btw - and just right to inspire us in the New Year :)

I did that one. I just added some rows of fancy stitches into the basic pattern, there wasn't a plan or anything scientific, I just made it up as I went along.
