The Alt-Right

In depth piece by Dr. Amanda Rogers AKA @MsEntropy on Twitter. she's been tweeting loads since Jan 6th on white supremacy, lots of links to her stuff and goverment reports/files.

In one of those tweets she mentioned that the Department of Homeland Security section responsible for monitoring and investigating white supremacist groups was closed down in 2010. Under Obama.

This news story from Australia today neatly parallels that from the US nine years ago: Coalition deletes references to rising far-right extremism in Senate motion

Labor has accused the government of seeking to “downplay and dismiss” the threat of rightwing extremism in contradiction of national security advice, after the immigration minister, Alex Hawke, denied extremism is on the rise in Australia.

Hawke made the comments on Sky News on Thursday morning, and was backed by his Senate colleagues who rewrote a motion deleting references to a “significant increase in far-right extremism” in Australia.

Labor had moved a Senate motion seeking to condemn far-right extremism, including claims about voter fraud in the US election and the cause of the Capitol insurrection promoted by Liberal MP Craig Kelly and National MP George Christensen.

The motion passed on Thursday, but only after references to Kelly and Christensen were removed, and condemnation of far-left extremism, communism, anarchism and violence generally were added.

Batshit insane. Wholly fantastical comparisons to the Reichstag fire on the one hand, and a misty-eyed romantic view of a Portuguese fascist dictator on the other.

The Republican Party really has become unhinged from its moorings.

When Portland banned blacks: Oregon’s shameful history as an ‘all-white’ state
June 07, 2017 Outline - Read & annotate without distractions
In 1857, as Oregon sought to become a state, it wrote the exclusion of blacks into its constitution: “No free negro or mulatto, not residing in this State at the time of the adoption of this constitution, shall ever come, reside, or be within this State, or hold any real estate, or make any contract, or maintain any suit therein; and the Legislative Assembly shall provide by penal laws for the removal by public officers of all such free negroes and mulattoes, and for their effectual exclusion from the State, and for the punishment of persons who shall bring them into the State, or employ or harbor them therein.”

When Oregon entered the Union in 1859 — it did so as a “whites-only” state. The original state constitution banned slavery, but also excluded nonwhites from living there.
Grady-Willis added: “It’s really important for folks to understand this notion of Oregon as this lily-white state sets the tone and is important structurally for the remainder of history of not only the state, but cities like Portland as well.”

Portland’s reputation as a progressive city is largely a myth, he said. Portland remains the whitest, large city in United States. According to a July 2015 Census report, the city of 612,206 people, was 77.6 percent white; and 5.8 percent black. Grady-Willis called it “a key site for Klan activity.”
Darrell Millner, professor emeritus in Portland State’s Black Studies Department, said many early Oregon settlers were opposed to slavery “not because of what it did to blacks but because of what it did to them. Slavery represented a competition they did not wish to work against.”

Millner said Oregon became a place where “many practices we associate with the Jim Crow South were legal here.” In the 1920s, Oregon had the largest Ku Klux Klan organization west of the Mississippi River. In 1922, Walter Pierce, a member of the Ku Klux Klan, was elected governor of Oregon. Pierce served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1932 to 1942.

Interesting break down of those arrested to the end of January following the Capitol riot in the New York Times.
Link to article here - in case that's paywalled for you here is an archived version although you lose the fancy pop-ups on some of the graphics.

There have been at least eight more people charged this week including another Proud Boy

The DOJ application for him to be detained refers to the possibility of terrorism related charges. Interesting discussion of that and the conspiracy charges to date here

Proud Boy chapters in Indiana and Oklahoma have broken away from the group over the fall out from the 6th and the revelations about Enrique Tarrio. Others are questioning the direction of the group under his leadership.

“We condemn the actions of Tarrio while cooperating with federal law enforcement as a confidential informant,” the Tulsa Proud Boys wrote on Telegram. “We will continue to operate as Proud Boys but recognize no centralized leader or leadership beyond chapter officers … We are not a criminal organization, militia, fight club or political movement. We are merely a men’s drinking club.”

Perhaps not coincidental that 'barkeepers' are statistically over-represented in this crowd... and I wonder if the self-identifier as a 'dating coach' indicates other crossovers with the 'pickup artist / manosphere' sector. Thanks for the links Lurdan

another day ...

According to the FBI, they found 24 guns along with thousands of rounds of ammunition in Mr Houck's home. They also located almost $4,800 in cash and several "personal electronic devices".

Mr Houck further threatened former President George W Bush, posting on 6 December 2020: "GWB is a dead man... we will find you georgie boy."

On 24 December 2020, Mr Houck issued a different threat against Chief Justice Roberts, writing: "Supreme Court justices are appointed for life... You give us only one way to remove treasonous judges... death! It's coming John Roberts!"

In one call, Reeves allegedly said, “I am going to [expletive] kill you all, [expletive] the White House,” and “I am going to chop your heads off,” according to the complaint.

Reeves also made similar threats to a secret service agent who contacted him and added that he had done nothing wrong. He said he “had free speech.”

Oh dear, what a shame:
An internal war has broken out among Nicholas Fuentes’ white nationalist “groyper” army, with one of the far-right organization’s most senior leaders, Patrick Casey, breaking from it.

The apparent growing rift comes as the groyper army plans to hold its annual America First PAC (AFPAC) conference in Orlando, Florida. Casey believes the gathering shouldn't be held this year over a fear that the right-wing attendees will get doxed.

In a live stream on Thursday night, Casey claimed Fuentes "stabbed him in the back" while arguing that there should be no AFPAC conference this year in light of the Jan. 6 Capitol siege, where many groypers were seen at and have since been criminally charged.

One of the most prominent groypers to be charged in connection to the Capitol riot was Tim "Baked Alaska" Gionet.

The conference is slated to rival the more mainstream conservative conference CPAC.

"To be clear, I wanted to avoid this, but after repeated attempts to smear me and ruin my life by those I once called friends, I was forced to honestly explain why I will not be attending AFPAC this year," Casey wrote on Telegram Friday morning. "This is what they wanted; if they aren’t happy with the results, they only have themselves to blame. Going forward, it would be best for all parties to agree to a clean break."

"I will remain supportive of AF [America First] insofar as it’s advocating for sound ideals and policies in a responsible manner. I have no intention of maintaining a prolonged feud with anyone involved and harbor no ill will toward them," he added.

Following Casey's split from the organization, fellow groypers fumed over his lack of "loyalty" to it.

"Difficult times reveal a man's true character. Loyalty is the bedrock of everything we do," Kansas State University student Jaden McNeil, who posted racist jokes online about George Floyd's death, wrote on Telegram of Casey.

Both Fuentes and Casey did not return the Daily Dot's request for comment.

During a live stream on Thursday night, Casey claimed that Fuentes is under an FBI investigation, on a no-fly list, and had his bank account frozen.

Fuentes and Casey have been longtime friends who saw the far-right movement start to come to fruition in 2018.

Casey added that Fuentes' large gathering in Florida could put groypers who show up to the AFPAC conference at the end of February at "risk."

"The FBI is looking at Nick, and they are looking at his finances, and they are saying 'you can't access your money anymore,' but he is not going to tell you that," Casey stated.

another day ...

"He is accused of calling U.S. Rep. Katherine Clark’s office in Massachusetts in 2019 saying he was “willing to abolish government by spilling blood by taking out four to five democrats, including Clark,” according to the indictment. Miller also claimed he “would start shooting black people to keep them in line if he had to, and that the congressional staffer was an (expletive) who will also die in Miller’s forthcoming civil war,” the indictment says"

"According to an arrest report, she called the victim a “spic,” which is a slur for Hispanics, and said “we should have gotten rid of of you when we could.” She also said “This is not going to be Biden’s America, this is my America” and “we should have burned it all,” the report said.

Then, the report said, Wright took our her keys and began scratching the man’s car. “The defendant also proceeds to stab the victim’s vehicle with her keys while saying he needed to go back to his country,” the report said.

The man tried calling 911, but the doctor punched him, causing him to drop the phone. As he tried to pick it up, she kicked him and tried to stomp the phone, police said"

A couple of dolthunts for your delectation

A great moment from that Bellingcat one:
Footage from January 6 released by ITV News shows Williams urging rioters upstairs towards Congressional offices. In one video from inside Pelosi’s office, a voice that the FBI states it believes to be Williams’ says “dude, put on gloves” before a gloved hand takes a laptop from a table.
Ah, OK, she sounds like she must at least understand the importance of covering one's tracks when doing things like storming the Capitol and robbing stuff from Pelosi's office...
The affidavit links to a thread of captured Discord posts from a user named Riley bragging, “STOLE SHITT FROM NANCY POLESI [sic]”.
oh nevermind.

Oh, and
NBC News spoke to Williams’ lawyer, A.J. Kramer, who would neither confirm, nor deny it was his client in the video before stating the video was meant as a “joke,” although he initially wouldn’t elaborate on who made it or who it was meant for.

Kramer later followed up in an email to NBC News stating that the video was an “ironic internet joke about and against people called Wignats, who are like national socialists and who are like Nazis.” The video, he added, was meant to mock such people and is opposed to their beliefs.
Don't you just hate it when you film yourself sieg heiling while wearing a sonnenrad hat and Atomwaffen mask, as an ironic joke to make fun of nazis, and then it gets taken completely out of context? It's just like that one Father Ted episode.
