The Alt-Right

What makes you say this?
A lot of this stuff doesn't come across as alt anymore. More just traditional right. At least to my eye.
The second bit is mostly a joke but based on the truth that 8chan which has a lot of these kind of folks was set up as a response to 4chan clamping down on gamergate stuff.

There's no novelty element any more, which was all they ever had. Trump's been in for nearly four years. Plus there's no need to be an ironic racist these days when you can just be a flat out racist and it's fine.

I think the big unite the right rally was a tipping point. It emboldened a lot to go full in and kinda scared off some of the more hipster 'ironic' racists.

Less alt more right.

From the BBC today

Michigan's state legislature cancelled its Thursday session after receiving death threats and facing more armed protests from right-wing groups campaigning against lockdown measures

Steven Payne, a self-described "gay feller," who wrote in The Daily Kos:

"Brian (his husband) and I will be liquidating our assets in preparation for a certain loss. We anticipate the restitution ordered to this woman will take us down to our very last penny. In the meantime, our fear is so great we have ceased and desisted being homosexual."

That's almost as good as when one of our state senators sued god:

The lawsuit accuses God "of making and continuing to make terroristic threats of grave harm to innumerable persons, including constituents of Plaintiff who Plaintiff has the duty to represent." It says God has caused "fearsome floods, egregious earthquakes, horrendous hurricanes, terrifying tornadoes, pestilential plagues, ferocious famines, devastating droughts, genocidal wars, birth defects and the like."

The suit also says God has caused "calamitous catastrophes resulting in the wide-spread death, destruction and terrorization of millions upon millions of the Earths inhabitants including innocent babes, infants, children, the aged and infirm without mercy or distinction."

One of the more interesting parts of the case was that the plaintiffs requested that the usual requirement to serve the defendant be waived:

Plaintiff, despite reasonable efforts to effectuate personal service upon defendant 'Come out, come out, wherever you are,' has been unable to do so,'" Chambers said.

The suit also requests that the court, given the peculiar circumstances of this case, waive personal service. It said that being omniscient, the plaintiff assumes God will have actual knowledge of the action.

I don't always agree with Ernie Chambers, but I'm never bored by him, and know that when he states something he's telling the honest truth as he sees it.

'We don't live in a communist country!': battle over masks rages in Texas

It's remarkably frustrating and sad. At the moment, it feels like the US is fucked.
