Replaced a 5 year old ugly bedside cabinet with a much nicer 9 drawer today.

I need this. Did you get it from somewhere generic or is it an amazing one off?

I got it from here:

But keep an eye on the price. they keep lowering it and upping it. On Sunday it was £115. Then Monday it jumped to £127. So I waited. They very next day it lowered to £118 (at this price I ordered it and it was delivered the following day on Wednesday). Now it has jumped to £135. I dont get why it jumps in price like this. Absolutely bizarre....

Have shown gsv my front room ideas and he didn't dislike them - as I thought the strong royal blue walls were a bit much, but he might be up for a yellow or a mellower shade of blue, which I'd be happy with (as long as it's not grey basically) He agrees with me on striped roman blinds - can't be arsed with curtains, and it's supposed to be a more formal reception area, so roman seems better than standard rollers. He has a bit of a thing for stripes and there's lots of nice ones out there in blue/yellow colourways which I think will be nice.

Sadly I fear our lovely decorator may have retired - his number doesn't seem to be in service and he's not online anywhere. I'll give him one more try next week in case he's just away somewhere (if he's vsiting his country of origin it may be a place where phone service is not available) but otherwise will be casting around for recommendations.

I started stripping the only room I've never decorated last week. It was blown vinyl and I knew it was going to throw up some shit. It came off like shards of glass the amount of layers of paint it had on. Then I discovered this above the fire place,

looks like they had panelling stuck on with thick layers of contact adhesive . So now I'm going to have to get heavy duty lining paper cos everything I've tried won't shift it.
Lost my motovation somewhat :( .
Anyway, when I find my mojo, I'm looking at either herb on the left or Kilkenny on the right.

Oh, and my walls are now probably 50% polyfilla, dust everywhere

Herb is nice. Relaxing. Slightly worried you might feel like you were living at the bottom of a swamp with Kilkenny.

I warn you — if you go for Kilkenny, you’re going to be struggling to find colours that go with it for the rest of the room. You’re going to be restricted to golds and burgundy/rusty reds with dark wood. Fine if that’s what you want, but not if it’s not.

Another vote for herb here Calamity1971 🙂

What about re doing panelling on tge chimney breast? Keeping it white?
Looked into panelling but it was to expensive :(
Rented house, and hard hats have been spotted looking at houses here (private estate land) so not wanting to spend too much. Grade 2 listed buildings opposite may become yuppie shite.

Oh I hope not. 😟
Me too. The estate manager is a cunt. He has a massive house down the road and charges everything he has done to the seminary. Snidey bastard . He's like the Frank Tate of durham, but with a hunch :D

Finally got round to looking at our neighbours' loft conversion - they basically have a big bedroom at the front and a bathroom in a dormer behind that, with access to storage in the eaves. Which I think is more or less what we want. He helpfully told us what he would do differently (underfloor heating, for one thing) if doing again and have their builders' number now - I see their sign on a lot of lofts locally, which is encouraging, but may also mean they won't be available this year. Which I can live with if necessary given how expensive this year is going to be without even extending the loft.

I've started meddling again.

Wallpaper stripping was sort of a waste of time, the plasterer came out and we decided the plaster is shot and will have to be hacked off and boarded. However it gained us that knowledge so it was worth doing. We've got some damp or water ingress issues to sort too.

Pulled the fireplace, scraped some paint and started applying PeelAway, plan is to take it back to black. Dismantled the inserts and took the tiles out with a view to getting them replaced with something custom.

This is PeelAway 1 (the nastier more potent one of two products) after about 8 hours. I'd already scraped a layer or two off the top section hence the improved result there. It works pretty well, I guess I could have used more or left it longer.

It isn't 'peel away' though, it leaves a sticky goo and it's tricky to remove that from cast iron without water. Used a bit and dried it off, hopefully quickly enough so it doesn't rust.

Been using a sample pot but it's worked well enough that I'll buy a big tub.

I’d nitromors it. It’s vicious, but no residue to deal with and better on mouldings etc

What's the gate made out of?
Wrought iron. There are two, I have stripped, treated and painted the other one, that leads to the front door. And have been avoiding doing the second because it was such an arse- I tried heat, wire wool, and peel it off- then my dad brought up an aged tin of nitromors from his shed and it was brilliant (well, incredibly vicious and gross).
