But where would the wall go in the bay! If you look at the interior pics, there would just be.... well, I dunno, a gap for cats and children to wriggle through?
On the neighbours' bay, it appears that it runs into the slightly thicker portion of framing to the right of the central window opening.

So here are the spare room 'Before' pictures. I'm hoping to get the room prepared today so I can start painting tomorrow, but a friend has died this morning so I'll see how I feel.

If I was going to do it I'd buy a kit to send off - I think it's about £30 for 1 sample and £45 for 2. The kits usually come with PPE and a marked bag to correctly dispose of them.

The thing is, if it *is* asbestos, the advice would be to seal it in rather than remove, which is what I am planning to do anyway. Fucked if I am going to steam off artex. :D I can do the floor myself with screed/leveling compound..
We were going to buy a place but chickened out when we found that every ceiling was artex with asbestos, no way would I go near it myself or just cover it up, it has to be got rid of properly.

Have had some kind of virus most of the past week, so have only been able to paint for at most an hour most days. I have managed three coats of white all way round, but discovered I needed a bigger ladder, which only arrived yesterday.

I need to do back and do the cornice and the bits here and there. Only one coat of blue so far, will probably need two I think.

equationgirl - what is that shade of blue you used? I'm keen to try something like that in our front room

... our front room for which I have finally booked electricians to install new lights, which will be the first stage in stopping it being a total junk room (getting rid of vile pub carpet next). Unfortunately they probably will have to go through the wall to install an extra light switch, but maybe we can live with that corner by the door being patched up for a bit if we replace the carpet as the wallpaper is at least fairly neutral. Could have it redeco'ed at the same time, but I'd rather prioritise getting daughter's room modernised and the blue walls of my dreams can wait another few years!

It's a Dulux paint in silk emulsion called Sapphire Salute (ridiculous name). Was the darkest blue I could find.

Thanks, it's close to what I'd like to try. gsv gets very nervous of colours, but the idea is this will be music room/'grown up' lounge ultimately, so I think it can get away with fairly strong walls as it's not like we'll be in there constantly

And presumably all the other walls in your house are more neutral/paler so he could look at those instead?

I was also inspired by equationgirl blue. Ended up using Teal Tension by (I think) Dulux.

When we moved into our house in 2018, I got various jobs priced up. One was replacing a lot of decaying fence panels, about 25 of them, and a few concrete posts. I got a local company to survey and they quoted £2,300. The job went on the back burner because other things took priority.

Now it's the next thing to do and l contacted them again. They said they had to re-survey because it's been so long, and they did. Same guy came out, even said "I've done this before haven't I?"

Quote came through today. £1,300.

WTF. Do I ask them in case they've missed something? Do I assume they made a mistake on the first one? Do I just keep quiet, do it and deal with whatever happens?

Wait another couple of years. See if you can get it for £300.

Get another quote ...and even was a a bit more I would go for them instead and make boyo aware that they lost the job due to the original quote

The price probably depends on how desperate they are for the work
Possibly. They provided lead times on both though. I wonder if they either (a) fucked up the original and mistook needing a handful concrete posts for one on every panel, or (b) have missed something off the new one.

I probably should get another quote. If it was £2,300 again I would out of basic due diligence.

Found the leak and installed temp work around. Think we’d best call a plumber now.

we’ve been talking about getting the bathroom done for years. Guess this is the excuse we’ve been waiting for. C7C5BF3B-E960-4661-84C8-FE678385C483.jpeg

Is it from the same firm as the bed ? :hmm:
Not quite sure what you mean, but the mattress arrived before Christmas (Highland Blindcraft for the win) with the bed frame coming from Wayfair, as it's the only supplier of this model and I wanted it the same as the bed in the main bedroom.

Bed frame has been held hostage by the delivery company since 8th December.

Aha, maybe I'm getting it confused with someone having a sofa delivery saga. Although a captive bed frame is far from ideal.
