Save Radley Lakes: Protest 10 March - Legs and cycles

Luther Blissett

Nomadologist
You are invited to join cyclists from across Oxfordshire in a bicycle ride in support of the campaign to "Save Radley Lakes" next Saturday 10 March. (see for http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2007/03/364400.html details)

Everyone is welcome to join the cycle ride as a planned show of support for the campaign, and the ride will end at the lakes. Bring bells, whistles and banners if you can.
Npower has filled all the lakes east of the railway with ash, and now it wants to destroy the remainder in the same way, completely destroying habitat for many species of birds, fish, animal, and plant. News of the cycle ride is being broadcast to Cyclox, Critical Mass, Sustrans, CTC, and of course Save Radley Lakes

VICTORY!
It's been three-years of constant pressure, many tears and much angst in Radley community, but at last I'm ecstatic to announce that
Npower announce their plans to Save Thrupp Lake
17th December 2008.

RWE npower, has finally signed an agreement to supply Waste Recycling Group (WRG) with the majority of the coal ash produced by the station over its remaining lifetime. This is the news that Save Radley Lakes have been waiting for after brokering discussions with WRG and NPower to come up with a solution to the need for ash disposal.

NPower say that along with the recent £60m investment in new turbines at the gas-fired Didcot B Power Station, today's deal will ensure the continued production of electricity for over three million people, while supporting the local economy and safeguarding jobs. The deal will provide WRG's Sutton Courtenay site with ash for engineering purposes, and remove the need for disposal at the Radley gravel pits, creating new opportunities for nature conservation.

RWE npowe rintend to discuss plans which would make Thrupp Lake former gravel pit over to the local community and managed by a partnership including a wildlife organisation.

Save Radley Lakes are delighted that the Campaign it has pursued over the last three years plus has been successful and even more delighted that Npower will secure the area as a wildlife reserve
