Russian anti war movement

I took the tweet itself as genuine but someone on the thread was saying that it wasn't the regular url for Novosibirsk SU, so the statement reported may have been untrue. But I wondered about The Siberian Times itself (which I've followed for some years and never seemed controversial, more geared to tourism and feelgood stories) whether or not it was relaying a genuine statement - it seems very high risk. So it looks like both are genuine - and clearly there are people in Siberia resenting Moscow rule and exploitation.

Their Twitter feed has a lot of anti war stuff. I don't know what it's like in the Russian language section of the site.

ETA: looking at the source for that second one, I think they mean that "In the night of April 18, [20]22, unknown assailants attacked", not "In the night of April 18, 22 unknown assailants attacked" - I thought that 22 people seemed like a large and also very specific number to get involved in such a risky action. This has been your insurrectionary Lynne Truss moment for the day.

This artist has to send a report on her activities every 3 months to the Ministry of Justice, since she was declared a "foreign agent" in 2020.
Well this time she's illustrated the forms with her art and words about what she thinks of the war.

Two examples:

bombs and flowers and Russian writing in red and black on paper form.png

above left: "The people of Ukraine live in regular houses, they go to work and raise their children. Why is the Russian army bombing them?"
above right: "The money Russia is spending on war is enough for everything - education, pensions, medical care."
- Daria Apakhonchich

Artist Sends the Ministry of Justice an Illustrated Letter About the War in Ukraine - The Moscow Times

It says "In Yasnogorsk (Tula region), a woman tore Z-symbols from the windows of a kindergarten where her child goes. According to the denunciation of employees, the police opened an administrative case on discrediting the Russian army and the court imposed a fine of 48 thousand rubles on the rebel."

(I think kindergarten in Russia is for 3-6 year olds. Fancy having that symbol at a place for tiny little kids. Guess it shows how it's being normalised.)

Btw, underneath, someone posted this (transl: "Actually, kindergarten should also be fined"). 😄

Does anyone know anything about the Russian Freedom Legion/Свобода России? Dunno if there's been any discussion on the main thread or anywhere, but just learned of them and they seem like an interesting development:

Been wondering about this. There's a new twitter account, quite low follower count atm, not sure what to think.
Could be good if this is going to be a thing. Guess we'll see.

Some machine translations from their telegram channel:
The history of our Fatherland remembers that every 100 years, conscious and responsible for the future of Russia, warriors make a significant contribution to directing the Russian state towards the development of the freedoms of the people and the overthrow of tyranny that is destructive for the Motherland:
1825, December - officers of the Russian Imperial Army in St. Petersburg raise uprisings against autocracy and serfdom;
1917, February - the military personnel of the Petrograd Military District support the strike movement, thereby forcing Tsar Nicholas II, who has drawn Russia into a catastrophic war, to abdicate.

It's 2022 now. Dictator Putin doomed Russia to isolation from the world, the impoverishment of the people, the destruction of his own army, finishing it off from the inside with repressions.

Isn't it time for the defenders of Russia, devoted to her and wishing a bright future for posterity, to say a weighty word with weapons in their hands?

The Legion "Freedom of Russia" is called upon to save the Russian state from the darkness and slavery of the dictatorship! Join the ranks of the Legion, warrior! Save the future of your Motherland!

"L"
For Russia! For freedom!

Appeal to officers and generals of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

In August 1991, the Tamanskaya and Kantemirovskaya guards divisions, during the putsch in Moscow, went over to the side of the people and thereby put an end to the State Emergency Committee, saved the country from dictatorship and a bloody civil war.

With their feat, the Russian soldiers of the famous divisions brought freedom to Russia and independence to the republics of the USSR.

A little over 30 years have passed since then.
Russia has turned from a beacon of democracy and freedom throughout the post-Soviet space into a pariah for the entire free civilized world.

Since 2000, power in the state has been seized by Putin and his junta, who rape and rob Russia, kill its citizens and citizens of neighboring countries, deprive Russia of its future and development.

Now this madman, together with his accomplices, is hiding somewhere in bunkers in the vastness of our Motherland, and Russian soldiers, at his whim and through his madness, are dying in the vastness of Ukraine.

Officers and generals of the Russian army, your life and the lives of your subordinates are in your hands.
Stop dying yourself and send your soldiers to their deaths in Ukraine.

Officers and generals of the Russian army, you are well aware of the cowardice and meanness of all Putin's government.
You are well aware of the aimlessness and further futility of the war against Ukraine and the entire civilized world.
Save the lives of yourself and your soldiers, save your honor and the glory of our Armed Forces.

Then, in August 1991, officers and generals made their choice in the name of Freedom and Life in Russia.
Make your choice in the name of Freedom and Life.

Officers and generals of the Russian army, now the insane dictator is hiding in bunkers and is absent from Moscow. The capital is waiting for you and your soldiers. Take power into your own hands. Save Russia from shame, return the future to the people of Russia.

The Legion "Freedom of Russia" is ready to join the units and subunits of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation to liberate our Motherland from the Putin regime and facilitate the transfer of power in Russia to the people's government.

With respect to you, legionnaires of the Legion "Freedom of Russia".

For Russia! For freedom!

Caption translates as:
"Our compatriot, a serviceman of the Russian army, who is now in the south of Ukraine, sent us proof of the cynical lies of the top leadership about the real situation at the front.

Yesterday (04/18/2022), these SMS were sent to the phones of Russian military personnel located on the territory of Ukraine.

This can only mean one thing - in the ranks of the Russian army, the number of servicemen who really understand the whole failure and low level of combat effectiveness of the Russian army is growing.

The generals, fearing a high number of refuseniks, decided to fight this state of affairs by deceiving their own soldiers.

We call on all those who find themselves in the same situation and do not want to die for the dictator and his regime to contact us for instructions on how to proceed.
You will no longer have to follow criminal orders.
Join the Legion "Freedom of Russia".
Together we will free Russia from Putin and his liars.

"L"
For Russia! For freedom!"

But I can't auto-translate the screenshot - frogwoman, any idea what the text is saying?

I'll have a go

'Crimea is ours, Donbass is ours, the LPR is ours, Kyiv is ours (we will evacuate peaceful civilians from the town) Chernihiv is ours, Chernobyl is ours, Kharkov is ours (we will cleanse marauders from the town) (I think) Sumi is ours, Konotop is ours (the citizens of the town refused to fight with the RF) Melitopol is ours, Kherson is ours, (we destroyed all the bandits with molotov cocktails) Mariupol is ours (complete blockade of the city) Volnovaha is ours (we liquidated all the Ukrainian armed forces and 'Banderites' in the city) Berdyansk is ours, Energodar is ours, Gulyaipole is ours, Korosten is ours, Zhitomir is blocked (NO food or ammunition supplies in the city) Belaya Tzirkov is blocked (NO food or ammunition supplies in the city) Berdichev is blocked (NO food or ammunition supplies in the city) Zaporozhe is blocked (NO food or ammunition supplies in the city) Nikopol is blocked (NO food or ammunition supplies in the city)...'

I haven't been following the exact progress of where the frontlines are and who currently holds what territory, but even so I get that "Kyiv is ours" might be a bit of an overstatement?

The legion are a real thing I think, from opposition channels I watch. No idea how many people have actually joined though. I imagine they're keeping that info under wraps
