Rugby Union 2014-15

Nice to see Ulster getting precisely what they deserved for fielding a second string side in the final game.
It nearly came off though. They were the better team I thought and started very fresh. What was strange is their lack of substitutions until very late on. Some of them looked out on their feet, do you know the thinking behind it? Lack of confidence in the bench? I don't know, it looked a mistake to me.

How about the medium-sized sluggers who don't make the MLB? They've got pretty good speed and not just in a straight line.

I honestly don't know about them. As for GI players and fitness I'm sure you're right Mr Retro. My father in law though gave me some insight into GI players and why they don't make good rugby players and he says it's because in GI they are used to their specialist positions and come on field for that role and have no real experience of other roles. He used to be a representative for Quebec and was until a few years ago one of Quebec's selectors.

That makes sense, because, outside of the set pieces, rugby seems a bit more open, based on the limited gridiron I've watched.

Anyway, Saints-Sarries in half an hour.

Bath looked awesome and totally dominated Leicester. It'll be interesting to see if Sarries can raise their game again next weekend.

I can see other Aviva Premiership teams following Saracens down the path of playing fixtures overseas in the future. Kind of like a mirror of the current NFL arrangement of playing games in European cities.
London Irish have just announced they are trying to have a match in New York next year to coincide with St Patrick's Day

We were taken apart. As ever, the Leicester front five were immense but if you don't have the backs to play off the platform provided ..... No invention, no penetration, too many spilled balls - Goneva a major culprit. On the other hand, Bath got into the Tigers 22 on seven occasions and left with six tries. Their wingers were superb their defense was superb and, no excuses from me about our massive injury list, Barf deserved their victory. :(

If both teams play to their potential, Saturday's final could be a classic.

Bath to win by ten plus.

London Irish, who are based in Reading, play in New York. This is a geographical head-fuck.
They're called the Not-nots, because they're not from London and they're not Irish. On the other hand, I used to live in NYC and there are plenty of Irish there... Maybe they should relocate. New York Irish Rugby Football Club has a nice ring to it.

Yeah, they were excellent. Incredibly disciplined in their own half too, perhaps knowing how lethal Ford has been this season.

Jamie George - the hooker with pace.

Fucking hell, Jerry Collins is dead. Died in a car crash. Great player and had a whiff of fun about him. Probably deserves a thread.

Just woke up to this news, sounds absolutely horrible - his wife died as well, their three month old daughter is critically ill. As you say he was a great player of the kind that doesnt seem to exist in rugby so much nowadays. RIP.

Gutted about this. Had the privilege of watching him play regularly at the Os when he was there. Absolute monster of a player. I remember him and McCaw absolutely dismantling Wales in about 2007; the ferocity at the breakdown and the physicality of the counter rucking was terrifying.

Seemed like a good guy, and as flypamam said, had a whiff of wildness and fun about him.

RIP big fella; you'll be missed :(

Really sorry to hear this. Great player and a true gent.
Will never be forgotten, not least for turning out for Barnstaple second XV against Newton Abbott in 2007.

RIP Jerry.

Saddened by that. He was a tremendous player. Huge, strong & skilful.
RIP Mr & Mrs Collins. Poor wee kid too.
