WTF were Clyde thinking?
What happens if Goodwillie sues Raith for breach of contract? It isn't as if they didn't know what he was when they signed him.
They have to keep paying him or agree a settlement figure.
His deal was / is £1200 per week for 2 years. He can literally sit at home and count the money, doing nothing, if no settlement is reached. It's pretty obvious he won't be playing football at any level in Scotland again and will need to go abroad to continue what's left of a playing career.
As for Clyde being a "club with very little future", it's true. A throwback to the days when football had a base in industrial society. Clyde originally were from the Bridgeton/ Barrowfield area of Glasgow, later Rutherglen. Since they moved to Cumbernauld in 1994/95 (voluntarily, not a Milton Keynes / Livingtson style franchise move) after a decade of homelessness (they were kicked out of Shawfield Greyhound Stadium in 1986), they have struggled to triangulate between the old fanbase in Rutherglen and surrounding districts, and new fans in Cumbernauld. Crowds have been largely very poor.
Relations with landlords North Lanarkshire Council were strained anyway and will now be ruptured in 2023 when it's been made clear their lease will not be renewed. So effectively, they have eighteen months to find a viable new home.
tl;dr: in signing Goodwillie Clyde walked out into no-mans' land, cuddling a hand grenade, and pulled the pin. They are fucked.
