Raith Rovers and the rapist

I don't know what Raith were thinking by signing him in the first place. His lack of remorse is doing him no favours.

Also, the local council owns the Clyde stadium now. When asked why he's been allowed to play previously, a spokesman said 'we didn't own it then, if we had our response would have the same. The council believes in rehabilitation but Goodwillie has shown no remorse.'

WTF were Clyde thinking?

What happens if Goodwillie sues Raith for breach of contract? It isn't as if they didn't know what he was when they signed him.

They have to keep paying him or agree a settlement figure.

His deal was / is £1200 per week for 2 years. He can literally sit at home and count the money, doing nothing, if no settlement is reached. It's pretty obvious he won't be playing football at any level in Scotland again and will need to go abroad to continue what's left of a playing career.

As for Clyde being a "club with very little future", it's true. A throwback to the days when football had a base in industrial society. Clyde originally were from the Bridgeton/ Barrowfield area of Glasgow, later Rutherglen. Since they moved to Cumbernauld in 1994/95 (voluntarily, not a Milton Keynes / Livingtson style franchise move) after a decade of homelessness (they were kicked out of Shawfield Greyhound Stadium in 1986), they have struggled to triangulate between the old fanbase in Rutherglen and surrounding districts, and new fans in Cumbernauld. Crowds have been largely very poor.

Relations with landlords North Lanarkshire Council were strained anyway and will now be ruptured in 2023 when it's been made clear their lease will not be renewed. So effectively, they have eighteen months to find a viable new home.

tl;dr: in signing Goodwillie Clyde walked out into no-mans' land, cuddling a hand grenade, and pulled the pin. They are fucked.

That's comparative chickenfeed to what he should have been earning had he not been a rapist and despicable lowlife.

The average Scottish Premier League player will be on 2-3 times that with the top earners at the bigoted Glasgow arsecheeks in the low-mid 20k. per week bracket I suspect. A few players in Scotland may even be touching 30k. per week.

Of course, "pisspoor" money comparable to lower end English Championship / top end English League One money. The English Premier League's top earners are on six figures weekly and on top of their money sign massive endorsement contracts.

David Beckham earned £10 million endorsing three spearate products in one afternoon during the 2002 world cup. Twenty years ago. It's utterly obscene, and unsustainable.

our top earner was on 2k a week when we were non-league. Only for the first season but he'd have still been on at least £1200 the following one

strikers are very expensive. even at Tier 6 in England (National League North / South) I'm aware of players in the £750-£1k weekly bracket. Part time football!
