Police strip search 15-year old in school

Tried to find a thread for this but it didn't fit.

Awful story of 15 year old black girl being strip searched by officers for cannabis in school. She was also on her period. No doubts it was racist too.

The School can do one too. The search would have been awful for anything, but for Cannabis to be the primary motivation...... Words fail me.

Even if you could take the racism out this is a most dreadful thing to do. Factoring racism back in, and I've no doubt racism played a large part in this child's treatment, then this is far from excusable.

The police officers doing this strip search need to be charged with sexual offences against a child at least. And the school charged with aiding and abetting this crime to take place.

It is a crime, it is a sex crime.

Someone will say they've apologised and lessons will be learned. That is not good enough.

Little surprises me any more, but this makes me fucking livid. What the fuck have we come to? What teacher allowed this to happen? You'd have to beat me to the floor before I'd let you strip search a 15 year old within a hundred yards of me. Just horrific.

I get why the school is not named as this protects the child's identity, but parents deserve to know that their kids are students at a place where basic safeguarding rules seemingly don't apply.

As for the cops, fucking nonce rapist scum all of them. Need to be in prison.

This is so utterly gob smacking on every level, the whole situation appears to have been handled in the very worst way possible at every turn. I hope people get convinced. There cannot be people in any of these positions of responsibility that don't even question any of these actions.

The very basic premise, someone smells mildly of weed is wrong. Possession of weed should not be a strip searching thing at any time, for anyone. A fifteen year old child in school, fuck sakes. Note Dick still hasn’t fucked off yet so she’ll be doing the usual defending job.

I'm not a police expert but I have edited a lot of those cop camera shows. All cops know they can't just strip search for cannabis. Let alone a 15 year old girl in a school. In fact the only time I've seen it on location (not seen, they don't let you film it) is as a part of a serious already warranted drugs search. Even when done back at the station there are several hoops that need to be jumped through and EVERY cop knows this, they can't not know. They also can't not be aware of the extra hoops, paperwork and processes that needs to be undertaken when dealing with minors.

Little surprises me about the Met, either, but I'm just at a loss to comprehend this. Teachers were complicit too? Jesus.
Finding 3: School staff deferred to the authority of the police on their arrival at school. They should have been more challenging to the police, seeking clarity about the actions they intended to take. All practitioners need to be mindful of their duties to uphold the best interests of children.

Surely they (school) should have engaged with the girl and phoned the parents and spoken with them if anyone needed to be called.

This is the crux, if it were a white kid from a 'good home' that smelt vaguely of weed there is no way that the police would have been called, let alone taking the child off to be stripped naked, ffs.

That is fucking dreadful. So many breaches of safe-guarding ...

Sexist, racist and bullying behaviour, no wonder school staff and the police don't get respected.

You know what ? I think every kid in that school needs to turn up with some weed ... and make a present of it to the head / the other teachers. And then grass 'em up to the filth.

Everyone working in schools goes over this basic, level zero stuff at least once a year. The staff involved have no possible excuse. They left a student alone on school grounds with unknown, unvetted adults; that alone is a potential sacking offence. At no point is there any kind of '...unless it's a copper' caveat in the safeguarding rules.

Very much this.

I don't expect anything of the Met these days except the very lowest of behaviour and standards. But I hope the officers are charged with what is effectively a sex crime like dessiato says.

The teachers involved should be facing a hearing and of being banned from working in a school ever again. How are parents supposed to trust their children are being looked after when this sort of thing is allowed to happen? What on earth was the principal thinking? I am as shocked about this story as I was yesterday when I heard it. I can't get it out of my mind actually what that poor kid has gone through.

What the actual fuck? It is impossible to see this as anything other than child sexual abuse. I am not easily shocked, having a fairly cynical view of general humanity, but this is properly shocking, as in I can hardly believe it (I do though). If I was her parent I would incandescent and not stop until I had rained firey justice on all concerned. Jesus wept.

The child was made to bend over, spread her legs and use her hands to spread her buttocks while coughing, and she is now in therapy and self-harming, according to family members’ statements to the inquiry.

Was shocked to learn a couple of years ago that filth are not DBS checked.

In light of Sarah Everard I guess that is not such shocking news to people now :(

This is all because she smelled a bit of weed, there was no murdered corpse or owt, just a vague smell. Cunts.

Nah. Those school staff wanted this girl teaching a lesson by the cops. They knew what they were doing, that's why they called the cops in the first place.

It's sexual abuse of a child to gratify the power trips of adults.

Ah, another example of just how truly wonderful our old friends The Metropolitan Police Force are. This time aided and abetted by a school, no less.

Sickening and shameful. But, alas, not surprising in the least.

I heard that detail on Radio London (Vanessa Feltz) and thought the exact same thing: that it was done for sexual gratification.

The "I smelled cannbis" ploy is popular with US police. It's a kind of magic incantation that allows them to conduct warrantless searches of people, property and vehicles, citing "probable cause". The bonus feature is when they claim that their "highly-trained" drug dog "indicated". Of course, as a doggy, it's just keen to please its handler, and will readily react to deliberate (or even subliminal) signals from the human.
