Over 3.7 million Brits over 45 go raving once a week

I know half a dozen couples between mid-fifties to early sixties who regularly attend Northern Soul all nighters. Fit bastards.

I'm gonna be 50 very soon and I go out all night raving about every 6 weeks. However I don't have many peers that do and I wish I could find all these 45+ people.....they don't seem to be in Bristol.....
I'm luckier in London. There's Rain Dance and Moon Dance etc. that all ages go to. Including an proper proper elderly couple who wear fluorescent pink and green rave outfits.

"Rave up" sounds like 60s psychedelia

"Knees up" like Pearly Royalty and ChasnDave

"Hop" like rather jolly affairs organised by uni halls of residence or more staid uni societies.

I think we went to the disco, even before there was disco music.

Before I had my son 8 years ago my poor not raving mum drove me and her partner around Orkney in the summer whilst we were doing the raving on research chemicals and some beers, LCD soundsystem blasting from the radio, stopping off at a church in the back of beyond that was empty so we did some of the raving on the organ and the piano that was there - he’s now 50 I’m 37. Little did I know it would be my last rave ever. So I can vouch for the fondness for the raving among the over 45’s But every week? I couldn’t even manage that in my twenties.

The true figure was probably much higher but sadly there's been a lot of people lost to anti-personnel munitions in the last decade.

I bet this guy's still going

Is that an EU libdem sofa?

Some guy ages 65 who i used to go clubbing with added me on facebook last night, he still goes out out..... :hmm:

My parents (mid 60s) go to Blackpool every now and again for Soul weekends, and sometimes to local nights here in Wales.

I only go raving when I go to festivals, so about once a year if lucky. 100% of my mates packed it all in years ago, sold their decks and are into Coldplay and shite like that these days.

I'll be at an outdoor solstice party on Friday, where I'd guess half the attendees will be 45+

I only manage a few times a year cos of the after effects - but doesn't seem to put off some of my acquaintances who are still bang on it at least monthly. The inevitable first party heart attack is a frequent discussion.

Northern soulies never need to stop : the music never grows old ( ie : it was always old, and timeless ), they always look good ( many just settling into quasi mod, so always stylish, some of them scooter / old skin-sih ) , the drugs seemed to stop being central to it all a long time ago ( speed is unsustainable over long periods, even if they still have the odd dabble ) etc - the big weekender they have down here annually ( Woolacombe ) looks fantastic, all of them on the beer in the town all weekend, good as gold, and looking as happy as larry.

I stopped all that when i was about 30. :D

I would feel ridiculous going "raving" now at 47.

I play once / twice a year at 90's revival type nights , mainly over 45's, stuck in same old, same old music ...lovely folk, all enjoying themselves, but can't pretend to feel massively energised / positive about it all ( I have to travel a long way, prepare a lot etc , but I need the money ) .

Having said that, my last ever full on / proper night out, late noughties, Horse Meat Disco, had everyone from youngsters to oldies, hipsters to big old gay bears, amazing disco / italo / proper house , pissed up / druggy / messy ( + that was just must me) and was amazing beyond words - so it's not an age thing for me, it's a 'stuck' thing ( to quote Tracy Emin re: Billy Childish )

Anyone as confused as I was re the Midland Sofa Meme’s can see the ad in full here: also featuring other things you forgot such as Golden Crown, issue 1 of mags being sold with Free Binder, the days stuff like The Babes of Baywatch appeared alongside The Godfathers of Grunge (Dinosaur Jr) on The Word, and last but not least Absolutely!
