No, but it’s a higher percentage than in other places.Thousands of workers in the BBC didn't get into Oxford, tbf.
Possibly, but would also say that the workers outnumber the nobs. Of course, you rarely hear from rank and file, especially when the corporation doesn't encourage opinion or grievances from them in the public sphere. Most people tend think of the people in front of the camera, as opposed to elsewhere in the organisation. No, but it’s a higher percentage than in other places.
It seems unfathomable to most people, but the world is teeming with these sick fucks. That led me to another thought, one that’s been touched on, but is very uncomfortable, and to which I don’t know the answer.
When Brass Eye got Dr Fox to say “Paedophiles have more genes in common with crabs than they do with you and me”, they were jolting us into recognising that though we call their crimes “inhuman”, they are not. Their crimes are something humans are not only capable of, but which humans carry out all too often.
How? In what circumstances does a human being do this to another? What is it that prevents me from doing this? I suspect the answer is at least in part to do with power. But just as the crimes of the Nazis were carried out not by other people, but by people, it is something we need to confront and understand.
Cartoons depicting child sexual abuse are still perfectly legal. "Lolicon" cartoons often depict the violent sexual abuse of children, and they're perfectly legal.Under Japanese law, when they find an abusive image, they need to identify the child, confirm they are underage and, in order for an investigation to proceed, the victim has to bring charges. Arrests will only be made if the evidence against the perpetrator can guarantee a conviction, so it’s a lot tougher to prosecute than in the UK.
It's hard to believe this shit is still not completely outlawed worldwide, but it seems it's still considered acceptable, by some, and until we start dishing out proper, fitting sentences, it's not going to stop. There’s a street in Tokyo known as "JK alley", or "schoolgirl alley", from the Japanese Joshi Kosei, meaning high school girl.
There, teenagers in school uniform sell their time to passers-by, while their minders hover in the background.
Men pay to hold hands, go for a walk or have a cup of coffee with the girls. Some even pay to sleep on a girl's lap.
This is all legitimate, above board and legal.
Japan is also home to 300 "JK cafes", where adult men pay to hang out with underage girls (the age of consent in Japan is 18).
In the new BBC Three documentary, Young Sex For Sale in Japan, Stacey Dooley visits a JK cafe in Tokyo.
“In this bar, £35 will get you forty minutes with a girl of your choice and unlimited booze,” she says.
In some cafes, men can also pay for "walking dates" – time with the girls away from the cafe. What happens in that time is up to the girls and their clients.
I am at an advanced age.
I am sure some others of both or all genders would agree with me.
The memories of my experiences of being sexually attacked three times by strangers when a naive young boy under the age of eleven still remains with me over fifty years later. I never resolved things because of my sense of shame.
The victims are an important part of this story, much more than the million words spoken by people about Edwards
“I didn't get into Oxford” does seem like a pretty poor excuse. Man was the biggest news anchor on British TV. For like ages.
Not going to Oxford should’ve been like a badge of honour
It's silly, but it is a real effect and has got Brookes some sizeable donations from posh folk over the years. To the extent that it is actually a pretty decent University these days. You can do a lot worse than Brookes. (standard caveat of "a good University is actually defined by your study area and not averaged stupid charts in the Times" I work at a very low ranked University, but we still have courses that are in the top ten in the UK.)He'll be jealous of people like me who were born in Oxford, but didn't get into Oxford Uni by the sounds of it.
No sign of any logic in the mitigation. But fancy lawyers can make just about any old cobblers sound reasonable.
These days you can say you went to Oxford but omit the bit where you actually went to Oxford Brookes University. I've heard of the truly woeful Etonians who didn't get into
Oxford Uni doing that.
I'm not sure if the distinction is that clear cut. I have always assumed the transgeessive aspect was at least part of why people did it. Particularly where very young children are involved. But maybe I just cannot get my head around someone having a sexual interest literal babies.I read a police paper on this on the last week - because I was looking to back up my supposition that they should all be sent a penalty colony/death camp on the South Sandwich Islands - and it turns out that a fairly high percentage of those who get caught fairly early on aren't *really nonces, but 'thrill seekers' who aren't getting off on the images per se, but on the risk/badness of it.
As a rule, they tend not to reoffend.
Which doesn't help their real life victims one bit, obviously.
Being a 'glass half empty, and you've probably gobbed in it anyway...' guy, I'm still in the 'festival poncho, mars bar, and the South Sandwich Islands' camp, but I'm still note sure whether Edwards is a 'thrill seeker, with real live victims', who will take up bungy jumping for his next kick, or if he's actually a nonce.
Anyway, burn him - obvs.
I'd take that with a large pinch of salt.I read a police paper on this on the last week - because I was looking to back up my supposition that they should all be sent a penalty colony/death camp on the South Sandwich Islands - and it turns out that a fairly high percentage of those who get caught fairly early on aren't *really nonces, but 'thrill seekers' who aren't getting off on the images per se, but on the risk/badness of it.

I've taught at Brookes. It has definitely made a difference on my CV, and on job opportunities.Oxford Brookes is a good university. The thing with certain Etonians (not all) is they put more value on being able to say "I went to Oxford" than the University itself.
It's all about the networking and job opportunities after Uni.
His wealth has already unfairly impacted on his family.I don't think he should be stripped of his wealth as that would unfairly impact on his family.
To the subject.
I think he's got off lightly. He should do time. At least the six months he was given, and with no remission. He should be on the register for life.
I don't think he should be stripped of his wealth as that would unfairly impact on his family.
I'd be surprised if anyone would wish to employ him as a presenter although he was a good but vastly overpaid one.
Probably give his internet history the once over too. They'll have to give Dimbleby a quick PAT test and then plug him in again
