Over 3.7 million Brits over 45 go raving once a week

I bet this guy's still going

"Going somewhere that isn't your house where music is playing you can dance to"
Seeing as the stats are coming from a gig/event ticketing agency, I suspect they're lumping in any kind of gig as well, and there's plenty of Ye Olde Bands From The Distant Past playing big stadiums these days.

Those big gigs would bump up the attendance averages.

I turned 45 yesterday and haven't received my rave invite yet. :hmm:

I think the figures only work if other things like 'visit to Toby Carvery' are included under the general heading of 'raving'.
I'm going to Noisily festival in a few weeks, I think there's about 50 other people in our camping group, and I'm definitely one of the youngest at 36.

So that's about 40-odd people accounted for. Only another 3,699,960 to find.

Remember 'over 45s' also includes 'over 60s' 'over 70s' and 'over 90s'. For it to be remotely true the 45-55 age group would really have to be bang on it.

Ah yeah silly me, I forgot that everyone must have instant access to every statistic possible at all time when discussing things on the internet, how silly of me.

Raving is just going out dancing so drunkenly swaying to Rod Stewart in your local pub with a late license is probably counted in this pisspoor survey

I read it as every week there will be 3.7 million people over the age of 45 out raving? Not that they do it every week.

Anyway I hate this fucking obsession with age and raving. There have been some articles recently "When are you to old to rave?" Never, now do one.

It doesn’t make a lot of difference, the figure is transparently bollocks. Though I agree with you in principle.

More like they've included all the swingers clubs.

I'm one of the youngest in my group. We go out most weeks.

I'm 37

Is that with all the trimmings though? I did my once annual rave 10 days ago and I'm still crying at ridiculous things now. Granted I've had a fair bit of shite to deal with in life recently anyway but still, this one has gone on for ages and I caught a rotten cold too.

Those figures translate to 192 million nightclub admissions a year, which is about 80 million more than the total number of admissions for all clubs/ages. Would be great if they were accurate.

We, me 50 Mrs Anju 48, were weekly ravers for many years then kids, health and money issues, all rave related, put a stop to most hedonistic stuff for a long time. Slowly getting back into going out now and this year have been out at least once a fortnight. I think a big part of our going out out again is because our kids are now 18 and 21 so can take care of themselves. That new found freedom might account for a spike in going out figures for 45 plus people, though not 3.7 million a week.

Scene from near the end of a 54th birthday gathering last Saturday. There was dancing and we only stopped when a neighbour complained about our shouty out of tune version of country living at 4am. Not exactly raving but more fun and less comeback.

judging by the booze there there can't have been many people at this party, i was at an 80th birthday do recently with more empties than that

I used to go to discos or nightclubs - we got kicked out at 2am and went for a kebab - is that raving ?

No grandad. You had to be driving around the M25, stopping routinely at services, striking up with like minded people saying things like 'nice one, top one, get sorted' and 'aciiiid' etc. Then finding a phone box, and clubbing together to dial premium rate phone numbers or listening to announcements on pirate radio to get the secret location. Then follow a convoy to the colourful lights and repetative beats in the distance coming from a disused Kent airfield.

:p
