'My parents-in-law have gone back on a promise to give us their house' - heartbreaking story

Truly heartbreaking story here:

Both my in-laws are retired, and neither has worked for at least 10 years. They own the house outright. We have provided them with their only grandchildren of whom they are extremely proud, who they have set up regular trust-fund contributions for, and who they regularly spoil with things I would rather they didn’t bother buying.
I’m writing because I am angry. And getting angrier. We struggle in this poky flat while every day these people who haven’t worked a day in the last 10 years swim around in space and a garden they don’t need. They don’t socialise. We desperately want to own our own house and start building a future and a legacy for our children.

They had a golden chance to help us, and they chose not to. I am angry at them, and ultimately I am angry at myself for believing in such an impossible dream.
My parents-in-law have gone back on a promise to give us their house

Aside from the general, entitled wankery - so bad it could well be made up - I liked this little nugget. Even nature ends up being managerialised:

"and we want our kids to have the same sort of more nature-focused upbringing we had"

How very dear they, " these people who haven’t worked a day in the last 10 years swim around in space and a garden they don’t need", retiring to a house that they paid for, spending their pension on their grandkids. No wonder they find confrontation upsetting.

I see the agony aunt is wise in the ways of the Force

Your anger will turn to bitterness

bitterness leads to hate and the dark side. Die in good time your parents will. Leave you only debts and worthless franklin mint tat I hope they will.

"Euthanasia is an important debate; just think about my poor granddad rattling around in his too big house in Hampsted. He only has his new girlfriend, wide circle of friends and extensive range of hobbies to keep him functioning between his holidays. Why won't society allow me to end his suffering?"

Selfish walkers probably prepayed their funerals as well, not in a value cardboard box way. Do they not realise how much a Guardian costs these days let alone socialising.

What's really fucked is this woman, thinks, by her standards, her kids are spoiled:eek: I look forward to letters in 20 years about her selfishly not selling a kidney- one direction reunion tickets don't buy themselves

Oh come on now - this couple 'provided grandchildren' ffs...the sacrifice, the kindness, the loving thoughts of (free) babysitting... whilst aged retirees are swanning around living like grandees.

I hope they sell up and blow it all on round the world cruises, drugs ,Kinky sex clubs and bingo .

At least that'll shut their in law up about them not socialising .
Increasingly our option;) not the "kinky sex" or drugs, ( aye boring I know)
Let the buggers fight out over what's left;)
But, making our will, is complicated, we have children, and Grandchildren and nephews, and people with LD who we have ' adopted' ( yes no such term;)these days, who now come under the the description 'shared lives"
How the hell do we allocate our inheritance?
One point, I believe the 'statement' blood is thicker then water! To be absolute Shyte, my great, great nephews, on wor lasses side, will get mair of our estate than my immediate nephews on my side!
ETA, some of my lot visit this site on odd occasion, yer fucked me bonnie lads and lasses:thumbs:
Apologies for the slight derail.
Apologies also for posting while angry and slightly pissed;)

Maybe just email them all the story in the OP. That should damp down expectations and allow you to piss it all up the wall. :)

I don't understand, if she gets the house then where will they go? Do they have another house?
In the full letter she said that her husband and her would rent a small flat for the in laws to live in. That rent for the small flat would be their payment for the big house!
