Louise Haigh mobile phone story

:weed:

I am quite impressed with Aviva's internal controls..

The most likely scenario is some shit-hot forensic beancounter identified charges coming through on an old number, identified the culprit and informed HR.

The other mystery here is if you're going to knick a workplace handset surely you at least change the SIM card..

apparently this was known to the party as she admitted it when they were in opposition, which means it was almost certainly leaked to press by internal enemies.
Sky mentioned she has connections to Sue Gray so maybe more fallout from that.

With connections to former Downing Street chief of staff Sue Gray, there has been speculation her cabinet role could be under threat in a future reshuffle.

Ms Gray's son, Labour MP Liam Conlon, is Ms Haigh's parliamentary private secretary and acts as her "eyes and ears" in parliament, while another of her former employees also worked for the former chief of staff before she was sacked after losing a power struggle within Number 10.

As transport secretary, Ms Haigh was one of a handful of cabinet ministers who complained to the Treasury about impending cuts in the budget.

She is considered to be one of the more left-wing members of the cabinet and has vowed to "rip up the roots of Thatcherism" with her plans for rail and bus reform.

In 2015, Ms Haigh was one of a number of Labour MPs to nominate Mr Corbyn for leader - a decision she later said she regretted.

20 something years old, told to just take it on the chin and a conditional discharge is something most 20 somethings would just agree to. Especially if they weren’t of criminal standing/experience.

I’m guessing if she was called Tarquin from the posh school and father was of good standing in the “community” we wouldn’t be talking about this shite now.

I am still feeling the practical and economical real life effects of pleading to something to just make it go away (and getting off with the minimum fine) on the advice of a solicitor.

Absolute bullshit non story they are fucking desperate

If they started fine tooth combing the archives of tory criminality they’d sink the tabloids with overtime payments

I don't think this is a comma splice situation. Look at the sentence:

You have made huge strides to take our rail system back into public ownership through the creation of Great British Railways, investing £1 billion in our vital bus services and lowering
cost for motorists.

In a comma splice scenario you can replace the comma with a full stop. That doesn't work here.

Even after your sneaky edit, Starmer is just listing three things she's done to 'deliver this government's ambitious transport agenda.'

That might be what he meant to do, but it's not what he's done. For it to be a list "investing" and "lowering" would have to be replaced by "invested" and "lowered".

Cor, are you kidding???

If this was Tarquin from the Tory party, this thread would now be 10 pages longer with calls to bring back hanging! :D

I'm not sure if this has already been said, but the Times reported this last night:

"...what she probably hadn't informed [Starmer] of, was that the employer, Aviva, found multiple instances where she had reported her phone lost or stolen. They investigated off the back of those and the police prosecuted on the basis of one of those incidents."

Again, they've got her to resign because of the bullshitting. Not the act. A bit harsh but probably right to nip it the bud before it gets bigger.
The issue is who grassed her up. Events were already in motion before she came out with her unlikely story about the solicitor advising her to say nothing. I'm not taking it as read that it was Starmer/Labour who grassed her up, could have been someone at Aviva or a plod for example. Starmer is certainly shitty enough to send a creature to whisper in the ear of a Times journo, though my punt would be P & O setting private investigators on the case and finding something either from Aviva or the cops.

My money is on Starmer. He has the look of a proper weaselly cunt, and my cuntometer is honed to perfection.
