Missing Milly Dowler's voicemail "hacked by News of the World"

Alex Marunchak (formerly NOTW executive editor) and Jonathan Rees (private detective) both arrested yesterday under Compute Misuse Act and RIPA.

Scotland Yard said the arrests brought to 16 the number of people arrested under Operation Tuleta, a Scotland Yard investigation into privacy breaches including the alleged hacking of computers and stolen mobile phones.

I wonder how well Marunchak's part-time job translating for the Met paid - rather attractively, seeing as he appears to live in a £2 million Hammersmith townhouse. Even Kelvin McKenzie's five bed Weybridge pad is only valued at £1.5 million!

Boris Johnson forced to disclose details of conversations with NI executives

Boris Johnson is under pressure to give evidence to the Leveson inquiry after being forced to publish his diary listing a string of undisclosed conversations with News International executives, including Rebekah Brooks and James Murdoch, at the height of the phone-hacking scandal.
The 139-page document reveals the existence of a number of phone calls and meetings the London mayor had not previously reported to the London assembly nor admitted to in response to freedom of information requests.
The conversations took place as the phone-hacking scandal raged and, on two occasions, just days after Johnson had spoken to the then assistant commissioner of the Metropolitan police, John Yates, who oversaw the original failed phone-hacking investigation.
Johnson's spokesman said the conversations had not been made public before because they were either commercially sensitive or outside the range of freedom of information requests, which had specifically asked about the existence of meetings, not conversations.

That's going to kick it all off again for sure. FT tonight also reports that Brooks had a 7 million quid keep your mouth shut pay-off and help with legal fees.

Story's up now: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/u...and-the-emails-kept-from-leveson-8212487.html

Private emails between David Cameron and the former News International chief executive Rebekah Brooks have been withheld from the Leveson Inquiry after the Prime Minister sought personal legal advice, The Independent can reveal.

The cache of documents, which runs to dozens of emails and is also thought to include messages sent to Andy Coulson while he was still a Rupert Murdoch employee, was not disclosed after No 10 was advised by a Government lawyer that it was not “relevant” to the inquiry into press standards.

The contents of the private emails are described by sources as containing “embarrassing” exchanges. They hold the potential to cast further light on the close personal relationship between the Prime Minister and two of the media mogul’s most senior lieutenants.

However Mr Cameron, as part of legal briefings he received before and after his appearance before the inquiry, was said to have been advised that the Brooks-Coulson emails were outside Sir Brian Leveson’s remit and so he did not need to offer them up to form part of his report, expected to be published next month.

Although the Leveson Inquiry agreed to keep private a number of text messages between Mr Cameron and Mrs Brooks – disclosed by News International – after accepting that they were “irrelevant to its terms of reference”, no agreement was made for any emails or texts originating from Downing Street.

Sources within the inquiry have indicated that while documents detailing Mr Cameron’s meetings with media figures were received from No 10, it had received none of the Brooks-Cameron emails. An inquiry source confirmed: “Everything we got from No 10 we published.”

During his evidence to the inquiry in June, Mr Cameron said his officials would continue to search for emails related to News Corps’ controversial bid for control of BSkyB. He promised: “If any are found, I will make them available to the inquiry.” Leveson sources said that No 10 had not subsequently told the inquiry it had turned up anything.

Downing Street told The Independent last night that “no further relevant material had been found” following the PM’s appearance. Downing Street made no comment on who made the decision on what was deemed “relevant” and what was not. A spokeswoman said: “In common with previous Prime Ministers, the PM sought legal advice in order to co-operate fully with a judicial inquiry.”...

I know this relates to Hillsborough but this thread seems a good place for ...

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2012/oct/22/channel-4-kelvin-mackenzie-hillsborough

Ofcom has ruled that Channel 4 did not breach broadcasting rules when its chief news correspondent doorstepped former Sun editor Kelvin MacKenzie about his infamous front-page splash on the Hillsborough football tragedy.

A fine piece of journalism, and fucking rich MacKenzie getting angry about being doorstepped.

Cameron point blank refused to answer a question at PMQs about the content of the excluded messages.

Anyone else's scandal radar twitching at this?
Or am I the only one who thinks 'country supper' is an obvious euphamism for lady orientated oral plesure?

Sounds like they are going after her using the official secrets act too:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-20181049

At a hearing at the Old Bailey she was told that a date for her trial would be fixed in the near future.
DCI Casburn, who is currently suspended from work, is also facing a separate charge under the Official Secrets Act which can only be dealt with by magistrates.

But what did they saaaaaaaaaaaaay?!

Bits of detail here, implying 'closeness':
http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2012/nov/04/david-cameron-texts-rebekah-brooks

There's a public interest in all this in as much as it relates to the relationship between Murdoch and Government. Also, who knows what else will be in the 'cache' of emails - and I'm not that averse to almost any political manoeuvre that sticks it to Cameron and Brooks. Same time, Chris Bryant's actions seem a bit tacky.
