seems to be reasonably good SofS - takes advice, asks questions, then asks more questions, isn't afraid to say 'no' and can actually make decisions.

Hammond was the best Defence secretary in several generations - very sharp, forensic, clever and with almost no ego whatsoever. MOD was very sad to see him go...

Wow, that sounds like an actual endorsement. Financially he pulled them out of a massive black hole I seem to remember. A friend of mine took redundancy at the time and said he was happy with it.

I would expect the new Prime Minister on September 9th to immediately trigger a large round of global trade deals with all our most favoured trade partners. I would expect that the negotiation phase of most of them to be concluded within between 12 and 24 months.

nice, easy metric to judge the new Brexit minister by. Or is it the International Trade Minister? or the Foreign secretary?

Of course, now that he's put it that way, any country not on the list will feel slighted.
