Mavic bicycle wheel specialists placed in receivership

I hope they survive. My old Mavic MA40 rims were the best I ever had.

Wheel specialist Mavic has been placed into receivership by a commercial court, according to Agence France-Presse (AFP).

French unions have reportedly asked for accountability from former parent company Salomon – and its primary shareholder, Finnish company Amer Sports.

Slightly different to going into administration, receivership means one or more ‘receivers’ are appointed, and they take legal charge of the company assets. An appointed receiver takes control of assets and works in the interest of creditors.

Mavic employs around 250 people and is known for providing neutral service at ASO races – including the Tour de France, a race it has partnered with for 40 years.

The 1889 founded brand is responsible for the likes of the market leading Aksium and Ksyrium wheelsets, as well as manufacturing equipment like shoes and clothing.

It does sound more like problems with owning companies. Hopefully the upsurge in cycling will mean they get bought and jobs are kept. They are an extremely prominent brand in cycling, part of French cycling culture - Mavic neutral service on the tour etc.

Sounds like some confusing, neglectful and generally shitty behaviour from owning companies. Cycling news. It does at least appear as if the associated unions and trade bodies are somewhat on the ball.

So an iconic brand, that's clearly still selling huge amounts of its product, and is part of the fabric of one of the worlds largest sporting events, can somehow still be in trouble. Isn't capitalism great.

They make high quality products and honour warranties. This is in complete opposition to cycling industry practice which mainly makes shoddy shit.

It further occurs to me that the brand is too valuable to die completely. Somebody will buy it and attach it to Chinese crap made by children. See Syncros.
