Bicycle Racing Thread 2013

Think I'm the only one who likes the rules on the hour TT. Has spartacus said which version he's targeting, or is he planning on doing both?

And I take it Wiggins will be announcing his attempt soon too?

Edit: just looking at the hour record cause I haven't paid any attention to it since the mid 1990s. So that Best Human Effort business isn't actually doable anymore then? Old school bikes only, yes?

Edit edit: yeah. That's shit.

So the MPCC can do something useful.

:D:D

It actually looks a bit like nobody is willing to touch him with the proverbial shitty stick. Along with a couple of others.

Then again it's hardly been a typical period for transfers so might be nothing to do with that. I imagine Horner, for example, would have been snapped up by now in just about any other year, even at a million dollars a year for two years.

Interesting that this is happening this year. Rider being treated like they are carrying the black spot, without actually getting officially popped.

Guess the interesting thing will be to see if it continues next year when UCI points will likely be a much bigger factor.

Its a disgrace and a hangover from the Verbruggen era that needs sorting, especially as its not like there were no innovations in bike design in the 90 years before Merckx. That orange bike he rode was the most advanced bike available at the time, he wasn't forced to ride something from the 19th century.

Tony Martin suggesting he might be up for an attempt at the hour at some point. Could be fun.

According to Walsh's book Sir Wiggo had to be made to pay Froome his share of the tdf winning bonus - he had paid the other team members.

Depressingly, it looks like Tinkov has bought Team Saxo from Riis. As much as the latter won't be missed, Tinkov is much the same but with added misogyny, homophobia and embarrassing drunken oafishness.

its worse than that - Riis is to stay on as DS for a salary of 1 million euro a year, thus ensuring rep as most rotten apple in the barrel.

He does have a contract, but I'm expecting a ban from the danish cycling fed to be forthcoming. By "expecting", I obviously mean "am hoping for but fully expect to be disappointed".

Tinkov takeover confirmed. I miss the good old days when the worst you would expect was one of the sport's stars sexually assaulting a podium girl :(

Can I please just phone in my usual dismayed post about A.Cuntador. He is chemically welded to old school dopers as DS's and will have to endure Tinkoff's Abramovich like pressure to be more 'pro'. Its depressing that Tinkoff, Riis and the plasticised one have generated so many column inches this week - and looking at the responses on cyclingnews it seems the 'fans' are still there to lap up all his bullshit.

Is it too early to start a 2014 thread? I only ask because the hilariously suspect winner of next year's tour of turkey had been unveiled today.

The Killer banned for life at 37...laughing all the way to Il Banco. Another rider than has never shown anything other than contempt for the sport.

In you couldn't make thus shit up news, JJ Cobo has signed for Torku Seker Spor.

The now annual comedy event known as the Presidential Tour of Turkey will be even more jaw dropping this year.
