TBH I doubt that he was stripped of the whip for saying what he said about Islamists (that was after all akin to a lot of the things that Tory politicians have uttered down the years, especially when talking about Sadiq Khan), what he said about politicians taking over operational control of policing events was probably more damaging to them.
