Ludicrously small coffee cups

Nowadays that will probably be £2.50 or more.

And you'll just get a tea bag in hot water.

I'd order a coffee of some kind on principle. :(

One thing I miss since the disappearance of greasy spoons is a cup of strong tea from an urn. Properly stewed.

You used get filter coffee in the better ones. I like espresso based drinks but quiteike as well.

Drink espresso at home from tidgey little cups but drink black Americano when I'm out and about. Then I always ask for the smaller cup and tell them to leave it "low tide" as well. I'd never buy a "large" coffee from a shop as it only gives them permission to just load it up with more sodding water

I'm confused as to what you think tea is exactly.

Tea in greasy spoons was never brewed in the urn, the urn just keeps water at the right temperature to add to tea leaves or tea bags in a pot or mug or cup.

Very confused about what you think was in the urn. It was hot water.

There used to be cafes where they would pour super-concentrated tea from an urn-like container and top it up with water.

The tea was brewed inside the urn.

Never come across that, I was once in a job where part of it was to arrange maintenance and cleaning of urns in communal break facilities, and I've never heard of tea being brewed in them.

It also sounds rank, I wouldn't want to end up with the dregs. 🤢

I like it spanish style (when on hols) cortado condensada 43 and a slug of condensed milk sitting on the bottom of the glass

...
Where I lived we called it a cafe bonbon.

Costa is now doing something they call Spanish coffee and describe as coffee with condensed milk. It is nothing like a cafe bonbon. They serve it far too large, add ordinary milk as well as condensed, stir it all together, froth it slightly, and put chocolate on it.

Portuguese coffee is very short, hot, black and delicious. Best I've ever had except for the roadside coffee stalls in Sudan. Although the Ethiopian coffee could be fantastic
