London Anarchist Bookfair 2023/24

I have no idea why anyone's fighting over rescuing it. Just let it go.
I'll admit a lot of my posting on this is simply about being pissed off. Sounding off about something I think is genuinely destructive amid the ever declining relevance of anarchism and anarchist influenced community organising. There's a desperate need for a fightback, but instead 'we' are doing 'this'. So yeah, mainly about being pissed off, but there's also the sense of the wider tragedy. :(

I think that probably says more about what you choose to see than anything else tbh. That's the othila/othala, which is a norse/Old English symbol not a specifically fascist one, despite their keen efforts to co-opt it. I'm also curious as to why you think a fascist-aligned piece of artwork would include brown and white hands clasped - which actually is an (anti)fascist symbol.

There is a lot I find disturbing about the way the new set of bookfair organisers run things. The old lot were. for me, painfully liberal but they did make it open to any group on the libertarian left. The new lot are also painfully liberal but are also imposing their own views on the event. And they're liars. The ACG was not previously banned because of any whiff of transphobia, last year the organisers simply said there wasn't enough space. Which having attended the event was obviously bollocks, and anyway the organisers contacted other people asking if they wanted a stall after they'd said the ACG couldn't have one. The origins of the ban seem much more due to sectarianism. Also that year the CWO weren't allowed to have a NWBTCW meeting, but a support the Ukrainian war effort meeting this year is fine. And really, what the fuck is going on letting a Trot group have a stall? I know someone here's joked about Kronstadt but there's full on partridge shooters participating in the event. Don't think mobbing Helen Steel was a good idea? Fuck off if you think you can have anything to do with the bookfair. Support the massacring of revolutionary workers? Make yourself welcome!

When the “new” collective took over, I think they made a point of calling their event “An” anarchist Bookfair, if I recall correctly.
That's just good grammar though isn't it? A anarchist bookfair would just sound wrong.

This is true. But it was the choice of indefinite rather than definite article I was highlighting. It’s a salient point, and related to an earlier post I made about not attending if it isn’t for you.

I knew really...

Strangely, if I'm around I might actually go as even wanky reformists find a mix of ideas energising and enthusiasm inspiring.

But which would be THE London Anarchist Book Fair? Perhaps there’d be squabble over intellectual property rights.
I think that there should be a law against events and organisations using the definite article. It should be "An Anarchist Bookfair" or "A Labour Party".
