Living off the land 100%

How far from the coast are you? I think they're shellfish not land creatures.

As will all shellfish, unless you know where the sewage outfalls are in relation to the shellfish beds, consume at own risk.

You know what? This real firsthand knowledge from my friend Robert the oyster guy in Ibiza. No Google, or anything - proper knowledge.

Oysters used to be considered commoners food because they grew mostly on the rocks where everyone emptied their waste in the days long before sewage systems existed. Shellfish thrive on waters 'polluted' with organic waste.

There you go.

Sod off you lot with your Google knowledge ;)

I hope you have an ehic card, chuck

Can't say I have ever tried periwinkles. Probably have, but don't recall doing so. I would imagine with lots and something substantial to cook with them, they could be good. But, like you say, probably a lot of work for very little reward. Like the small crabs I cooked in Nazare - tasty, but hardly a meal.

If he's an oyster fisherman he obviously knows his stuff. You on the other hand...

Oysters were for commoners because they were cheap and plentiful you fucking muppet.

I love mackerel. They are scavengers. They just eat all the shit and dead stuff in the sea. Very tasty, healthy and full of proteins and essential oils and stuff.

I want to be eaten by them when I die :)

Anyway...

Slight distraction as I have to wait for a bed (nobody needs to keep anybody warm tonight). As fascinating as the history is here - deep European history, I have just been told that I am in the home town of none other than Jose Mourinho. This interests me much more. I would love to meet someone who knew the great man as a child.

Other interesting stuff today: someone gave me a packet of digestive biscuits and a huge (3-4 gramme) lump of hash. This is allowed. I cannot refuse any gifts of food, or natural stuffs I didn't harvest myself.

I forgot it was Sunday tomorrow, so didn't buy paper and pens for work. Had a very good day today, so not really a problem. May well go search the incredibly beautiful beaches of the nature reserve for the day. Not really resting my foot, but this city is a little bit boring even though it seems to be full of very good people.

I've no doubt that by the end of the night you will have not just a free bed but a beautiful young woman to keep you warm all night as well :)

Ah well, a free patch of damp sand and a tearful walrus to keep him warm all night.
