Libya - civil unrest & now NATO involvement

It's funny that look like the pacifists on this board have finally developed a taste for blood. Everything I am told about what's really going in the middle east politically, just seems double talk on top of more double talk. The UK being manipulated yet again by the Arabs.

Ah yes, "The Allies" . . . Carries a certain loaded quality doesn't it. Ideal for the emotionally invested.

Might go with 'Coalition of the Drilling'.

Meanwhile even better news is Ghadaffis chaps have been gleefully sporting these bad boys , the brand spanking new Igla 24 surface to air missile making any helicopter or gunship supported western invasion - where they have to come down much lower than the 20,000 feet theyre currently skulking at , a decidedly more fraught affair .

they can be shoulder launched too and are even more deadly than the much vaunted stinger . Western aircraft cant jam them . The western powers have been cracking up since they found out Libya has them and are desperately trying to trace who brokered them .

The Libyans got their Igla-S/SA-24 Grinch systems from КБ Машиностроения in Kolomna. Presumably at the behest of the Russian government who will be desperate to showcase some their defence products in a context other than it getting utterly pwned.

The Libyan Igla-S cannot be used as a MANPAD (shoulder launched) and is susceptible to IR countermeasures. The manufacturer's own documents refer to a reduced pk in the presence of flares.

It's Drop the Dead Donkey meets Carry On - and that's just Sky News.

Loving the Mad Max theme in the trucks.

I've got a Toyota Hi-Lux and was just thinking that the one thing it really needs installing on it is a UB-16-57UMP rocket launcher from a MiG-23 painted like an easter egg.

Could have been written by dylans! :) the same impotent liberal handwringing!! [1]

However it raises the same questions, if western intervention or lack of it was incorrect in other places at other times does not make it the wrong thing in this case. And Mike stresses Oil more than a few times, Gaddafi only controls 2% of oil, hardly significant, hardly enough to get into a war about.

[1] no offence intended dylans :)

The point he's making is that the history of western intervention indicates the likely reality of this one, and that the motivation for intervention and the means by which it takes place inevitably creates the outcome. We're not dealing with a hypothetical, disinterested, humanitarian intervention by neutral powers, but with a real intervention by real actors with concrete interests. Many people talk about the first fantasy rather than the ugly reality of the second.

None taken. In fact I will take it as a compliment.(except for the "liberal" label) It's an excellent article.
