Let's talk about China

Xi who can not be named, is the most dangerous fascist currently alive.

Beware! It will happen very, very fast. And it WILL happen.

Be very, very careful.

And be nice to each other peeps.

German dependence on China growing 'at tremendous pace', research shows
August 19, 2022
"The German economy is much more dependent on China than the other way round," said Juergen Matthes, who authored the study.

He warned that this dependence posed a political problem as Beijing's stance on the Ukraine war and its military posture towards Taiwan placed German business with the world's second-largest economy under scrutiny.

"Yet despite these dangers and problems, economic interdependencies with China have been moving in the wrong direction at a tremendous pace in the first half of 2022," the economist said.

The study found that German investment in China amounted to around 10 billion euros ($10 billion) between January and June, far exceeding the previous peak half-year value recorded since the turn of the millennium of 6.2 billion euros.

Chipmakers caught in the crossfire of rising US-China geopolitical tensions
21/08/22. archive.ph
The Magnachip case is an example of how mounting US-China tensions are affecting chipmakers, which are increasingly being pressed to align with Washington as it seeks to counter China’s rise as a technological power.

The companies are vying for billions of dollars in US grants through the $280bn Chips and Sciences Act and do not want to be caught out by restrictions from an increasingly hawkish White House.

The Financial Times reported this month that Korean semiconductor titans Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are re-evaluating their investments in China in response to “guardrails” in the legislation that prohibit recipients of US federal funding from expanding or upgrading their advanced chip capacity in China for 10 years.

Competitors including Taiwan’s TSMC and US chipmakers Intel and Micron, all of which have manufacturing operations in China, are also under pressure to boost domestic US production while making it harder for Beijing to obtain advanced semiconductor technology.

This. Sharing videos can be good but just sticking up (longish) videos from unclear sources without any summary is a bit crap. At least make it clear where the video is coming from and a brief summary. It's not like videos from FG sources should not be shared but FFS make it clear about where this stuff is coming from.

Its largest lake is so dry, China digs deep to water crops
August 23, 2022

Fed by China’s major rivers, Poyang Lake averages about 3,500 square kilometers (1,400 square miles) in high season, but has contracted to just 737 square kilometers (285 square miles) in the recent drought.

As determined by water level, the lake officially entered this year’s dry season Aug. 6, earlier than at any time since records began being taken in 1951. Hydrological surveys before then are incomplete, although it appears the lake may be at or around its lowest level in recent history.

Along with providing water for agriculture and other uses, the lake is a major stopover for migrating birds heading south for the winter.

China is more accustomed to dealing with the opposite problem: seasonal rains that trigger landslides and flooding every summer. Two years ago, villages and fields of rice, cotton, corn and beans around Poyang Lake were inundated after torrential rains.

China has big problems with Covid which seems baffling given the amount of state control and that they've been handling it the longest. It's one of the reasons Hong Kong emigration is on the rise on top of the political crack down.
Here's an alarmist view of potential conflicts in the near future.

From the look of it...Xi Jinping stays and zero covid goes......
A few weeks back while I was stalking my estate agent (long story / another time perhaps) had breakfast sat next to a very rich Chinese woman and her husband/secretary whom were in middle of booking trip. Going to China via HK (as many do) currently, there the quarantine period is 3 days for Covid, though contagion period is 6. Current variant is obviously significantly less life threatening than the original outbreak (though with that number of corona; mutation to something more deadly is theoretically possible...). Meanwhile, as potentially contagious covid cases travel from HK to parts of China.....60 cases and whole cities then get locked down. The locked down need feeding, watering, fuel and testing whilst their normal day to day stuff goes undone.....which will most likely cost more than the stimulus spends they keep announcing.
