Imagine a JSO protest where these drivers don't toot in anger but toot in support as they go by, like with the firefighter picket lines etc. A protest that engenders that sort of response might actually be effective at influencing policy. But apparently carrying on with the current tired format is fine because group solidarity and awareness-raising or something.
Just seen them in person & you’ll be pleased to hear that lots of drivers were rooting their horns in support!

Seems pretty effective to me. Lots of sound and fury about it. And look how angry people like you are getting. That anger is exactly what they want.

You really misunderstand the nature of disruptive action if you think it’s about doing something and then directly getting what you want in response. You really misunderstand the nature of disruptive action if you think it’s about persuading unbelievers that you are correct. You really misunderstand the nature of disruptive action if you think it’s about quick wins or individuals.

You really misunderstand the nature of disruptive action.
People like me? What are you talking about?

a) Citation needed on the class makeup of JSO, because afaik there's never been a single survey or statistical analysis done on the subject.
b) The Daily Mail is just about the most anti-working class rag out there, where is your outrage at them (as opposed to screengrabbing their headlines) Mr Working Class Hero?
c) The idea that their point and right to protest is somehow invalidated by being middle class is a (fucking stupid and incredibly obvious) propaganda tactic from (uniformly middle class) writers in the national press, and you should be ashamed to have fallen for it for more than half a second, let alone repeated it.

woosh

The "all MC" accusation was thrown at road protestors. It was bullshit. Sure it was the voices of posher protestors that tended to be featured on the news (of course), but they were far from the only people there, and they weren't the only ones speaking about what they were doing and why.

One of the ways that JSO are successful is that by providing an “extreme” bogeyman for people to hate, they open the space for individuals to come together and agree on less extreme compromises. “We all agree that we’re nothing like THOSE irresponsible malcontents, which means that we are reasonable, so we can reasonably agree to concessions”. JSO are acting as “outriders” to the system, in other words.

This works. The conversation shifts even while those conversing loudly decry those they view as extremists.

The degree of post-rationalisation on this thread is pretty epic. Any more ideas as to how exactly JSO are going to save the world?

That's quite a lot of responsibility to place on a campaign group. Has anyone done so?

Or is it actually that you're annoyed people have repeatedly shown you up for talking bollocks rather than just stroke your ego, so you're continually picking at this thread like a kid at a scab?

I'm not annoyed by them at all
Lol.
