July 2005 London bomb blasts: UPDATES AND NEWS ONLY - NO DISCUSSION

Fucking hell, if it's two tube trains then there will be hundreds, if not thousands of deaths.
A little over-dramatic, no?

BBC site is down oddly enough, but Jon Gaunt is now referring to an "incident on a bus".

What's going on?

(thread title changed)

Sky are definitely saying that a bus has exploded in Russell Square as one of their colleagues saw it.

They are showing pics of ambulances and casualties at Aldgate Station.

I would doubt that a massive power surge would cause problems at "selected" stations like this all across the city. It would require far too much power and wouldn't just affect the underground. Whole swathes of the city would be blacked out as well.

London underground has its own electricity grid, so would not effect the best of London.

I have this terrible gut feeling that this could be a series of terrorist attacks due to the fact that we got the Olympics. I hope to god that I am wrong, but it just seems a coincidence that it's happening today of all days.

I don't think so! You don't seriously think that, do you? First of all something like this would take some planning and the assumption that London was going to win. Second of all, I really don't think the French, or anybody else for that matter, would be that sad...

Much more likely to be the power surge because the tube is in such a state of disrepair!

BBC site is now back up again, and reporting explosions caused by a power surge.

Can't see anything about a bomb on a bus yet.

FFS stobes, stop throwing wild ideas about. You don't know what's happening any more than anyone else.

afaik the tubes on a different power source of its own incase shit like this happens

It used to have its own power station (Lots Road) but apparently its been linked to the National Grid since 1994 info link

Presumably the power supply is still a separate system though?

Roof of a bus blown off...still to be confirmed by the police.

Nothing about 'a bus' on Radio 5 yet.

Edit: they've just mentioned a bomb in a bin having gone off at Russell Square. -Same incident?

Nexus North East suspend Metro services in Newcastle and Sunderland City Centre

Wtf the fuck is going on?

Jesus Christ, what's fucking happening?

BBC haven't mentioned the bus yet - the site still works for me, maybe because I'm abroad - but it seems to be definite, everyone else is on about it including Sky who had an eyewitness AFAIK.

BBC are saying ambulances and fire brigade showing 'no urgency' at certain stations.
