July 2005 London bomb blasts: UPDATES AND NEWS ONLY - NO DISCUSSION

sorry folks, had to disappear into an editorial meeting would you beleive it!

anyway, we're still here at canary wharf, safer inside than out imo tbh. haven't heard much from outside so no idea about the shooting rumours, they're going round here tho. security guards v active inside, and tons of police outside - we're the best guarded office block in london at the moment i reckon.

this is fucking horrifying.

everyone here accounted for apart from my boss  :(

Kea glad you're okay. I work on the 25th Floor at CW but could only get as far as Bermondsey this morning before being evacuated from the tube. My boyfriend rang me and told me there had been 5 explosions (this was around 9.30am) and to get in a taxi and go home. I could hear the fear in his voice so I did what he said and am now at home glued to the tv. My colleague is in our office alone as far as I know which I feel terrible about.

My girlfriend lost her mobile yesterday. She works inside Victoria station. It's highly unlikely that she's hurt but she's almost certainly scared shitless and she's still not managed to phone me. If the station's been evacuated she's probably being herded round by police somewhere. Is there any point trying to find her (I can cycle there) ?

that must be worrying, maomao, but i reckon they'll gave evacuated so you probably wouldn't find her. i reckon the best bet is to sit tight so she can call you when she can, if you're not there she'll fret

take this somewhere else, please.

He's right though, it's not exactly helping calling our Prime Minister a 'war-mongering cunt' now is it?
Even in the face of adversity it's sad that people remain immature and simple-minded.

if your colleague can get down to the 19th floor she can come and sit in our office, sunflower, there's quite a lot of us in here.

I think you'd be more of a hindrance than anything else, to be honest and there's been no reports of explosions at Victoria.

JERUSALEM*—*British police told the Israeli Embassy in London minutes before Thursday's explosions that they had received warnings of possible terror attacks in the city, a senior Israeli official said.

Israeli Finance Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (search) had planned to attend an economic conference in a hotel over the subway stop where one of the blasts occurred, and the warning prompted him to stay in his hotel room instead, government officials said.

Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom (search) said he wasn't aware of any Israeli casualties.

Just before the blasts, Scotland Yard called the security officer at the Israeli Embassy to say they had received warnings of possible attacks, the official said. He did not say whether British police made any link to the economic conference.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because of the nature of his position.

The Israeli Embassy was in a state of emergency after the explosions in London, with no one allowed to enter or leave, said the Israeli ambassador to London, Zvi Hefet (search).

All phone lines to the embassy were down, said Danny Biran, an Israeli Foreign Ministry official.

The ministry set up a situation room to deal with hundreds of phone calls from concerned relatives. Thousands of Israelis are living in London or visiting the city at this time, Biran said.

Amir Gilad, a Netanyahu aide, told Israel Radio that Netanyahu's entourage was receiving updates all morning from British security officials, and "we have also asked to change our plans."

Netanyahu had been scheduled to stay in London until Sunday, but that could change, Gilad said.

not all necessarily bombs of course. police just being extra extra vigilent with anything that looks vaguely suspicious.

PK, I nearly beleived that off tha bat until I realised it was from Fox...the who knew what when will fuel a thousan conspiracies no doubt.

.

Yup - just been a controlled explosion of 2 presents and a bag of washing at Swindon station!
(local BBc news report)

Just went to grab some lunch... Soho is fine, a bit subdued. I don't think most tourists know whats going on... Sirens everywhere, though...

This is so fuckin awful. :( :( I've been sat here trembling since reports of the explosions first broke. I can't even focus on my work as my head is all over the show... I've been on the boards constantly since the news broke as work just doesn't seem important now!

Here in Camden, we're still getting the odd siren screaming past us & the streets are desserted. It looks like I might not be able to get home tonight but a work mate has offered a place to crash if need be...
