Is India's idea of "fit for human habitation" different from everybody else's?

no, please define 'normal indian standards', not 'post up some waffle'

Normal indian standards are shockingly bad. 880 million people in india live on less than 2 dollars a day. The rich in india live in luxury and condemn millions to live in abject poverty.

Doesn't Prince Charlie and the other eugenicist eco-loons think we should emanate the Indian slums?

Some top athletes have already pulled out though. Which is fucking piss poor of them when they could easily afford a hotel if it was too awful for them to tolerate.

Huge shame for India, but then again, most of them don't get to enjoy their country's wealth so perhaps it's about time the elite got shown up for the shitheads they are.

What sort of nonce defines a country's 'Mickey Mouse' status by whether it makes a good stab at running the Commonwealth games?

How much was the overspend on Wembley then. And how come our national football stadium can't achieve a consistent, decent playing surface after a few years? How long has our King Rollo of a country had to sort that out then?

It's not obligatory for you to make an utter simpleton pillock out of yourself on every thread you know.

Dont be a dolt. Would you expect to go to a major games and have to scrub the floors and sweep them? I'm with Idowu and Chris Hoy - stay at home.

Hoy and the other cyclists are at home as they need to be ready for another competition that offers olympic qualification points.

yep, unfortunately the Commonwealth Games doesn't hold the same status it used to. However, that's no excuse to hold it in places that can't even plumb a toilet.

Maylasia hosted the games in 98 and India has previously hosted world cup cricket tournaments and the IPL, India has the ability to host a proper games and to 'plumb toilets', its the orginisers who are to blame here.

What Does Brazil, Russia, India And China - BRIC Mean?
An acronym for the economies of Brazil, Russia, India and China combined. The general consensus is that the term was first prominently used in a Goldman Sachs report from 2003, which speculated that by 2050 these four economies would be wealthier than most of the current major economic powers.

Investopedia explains Brazil, Russia, India And China - BRIC
The BRIC thesis posits that China and India will become the world's dominant suppliers of manufactured goods and services, respectively, while Brazil and Russia will become similarly dominant as suppliers of raw materials. It's important to note that the Goldman Sachs thesis isn't that these countries are a political alliance (like the European Union) or a formal trading association - but they have the potential to form a powerful economic bloc. BRIC is now also used as a more generic marketing term to refer to these four emerging economies.

Due to lower labor and production costs, many companies also cite BRIC as a source of foreign expansion opportunity.

Terribly Mickey Mouse they are. Still, Mickey was a nice guy. Maybe they'll treat us right when they're outsourcing to us and we're emigrating to them.

The next Commonwealth Games are supposed to be in Glasgow. At least the athletes will be able to get healthy food in India.

Yawn!

In answer to the OP India still thinks it ok for families to live on the street, so imo fit for human habitation is fairly different there.

Yeah. They think wheelie bins are hotels, like, literally.

Fuck's sake.

There was just an Indian woman on the BBC news reiterating that Indian standards might not be as high as British ones. But I think she had been bamboozled by the interviewer. I don't think she really meant to say what she said.

I hope they get the accommodation sorted and have a good games. No idea how they are going to get that bridge finished in time though. Not sure I would trust it to walk over after it collapsed either!

it's an opportunity lost especially because India desperately tries to catch up with China, staging the CG was a good chance to show that India can compete with China's staging the Olympics
