Is Elon Musk the greatest visionary or the greatest snake oil salesman of our age?

Weird thing about Musk is that he genuinely seems to be acting out of principle rather than in pursuit of maximum profits now. The problem is that his 'principle' is 'supporting fascist scum by spreading disinformation'. That is the hill this misanthropic billionaire wants to die on.

No, he is acting out of desire for political power, not just financial power.

Edit - can see him as Trump's successor if Harris wins in November.

The president or vice president can be born overseas as long as at least one parent was a US citizen, making them a "natural born" US citizen - one of Musk's grandfathers was born in the US, not enough to make him a natural born US citizen but it would be up to the Supreme Court to decide and I wouldn't put it past them to interpret the clause in a very Musk-friendly way

"interesting"

"Elon Musk engaged in one of his regular habits on The Platform Formerly Known as Twitter, amplifying a controversial tweet by commenting that it was “interesting” — this time a right-wing account that called for democracy to be replaced with a government system run by “high status males” and “aneurotypical people." "

the tweet itself is a howler

The original tweet talks about ‘high t’ men (men with high levels of testosterone) as being the super rational elite who should run society. Yes of course, being more prone to violent mood swings is exactly the sort of attribute I look for in a leader.

FFS he really needs to seek help. Buy a quiet island and chill for a couple of years.
Elon Musk has used his large platform on X to promote a theory that a free-thinking “Republic” could only exist under the decision-making of “high status males” – and women or “low T men” would not be welcome in it.

On Sunday, Musk re-posted a screenshot of the theory – which appears to have been conceived on 4chan in 2021– on the social media site.

The theory, written by an anonymous user, suggests that the only people able to think freely are “high [testostrone] alpha males” and “aneurotypical people”, and that these “high status males” should run a “Republic” that is “only for those who are free to think.”

It isn't worth getting into how ridiculous this is, but male testosterone levels decrease with age. So the logical conclusion of this would be a world where only males between approximately 16 and 27 can vote, as well as some older autistic people.

Incidentally, male testosterone levels start declining at around the age where the prefrontal cortex fully matures (25) so there's a lot wrong with the idea that high testosterone means pure rationality. In fact peak testosterone is late teens, below the drinking age in the US.

It can’t be a co incidence that this belief in the techno elite replacing democracy is what his grandfather promoted

I listened to a really interesting podcast on Musk, Origins Story with Ian Dunt and Dorian Lynsky. Good on his history and background.F82AF739-5647-42D1-93D1-3CFD3EC6A94E.jpeg

If it lasts any length of time they'll not come back. Twitter's sole strength these days is that people have already built audiences on it, but once that's replaced ...

It's my hope that it will be big enough to start properly overcoming the "network effect".

Plus, the idea that there is an “objective reality” of society is just laughable.
